Large Number Entries At Monroe Fair 4-H Winners

The Monroe county 4-H fair opened with crowds at the pony show and rodeo. Livestock entries include 117 baby beeves, 120 sheep, 63 dairy cattle, and 50 hogs. Local 4-H members earned blue ribbons in shorthorn, Guernsey, and Holstein categories. In sheep Kenny Ellison led with grand champion pen, while Mark VanZante secured blue ribbons for two pen and individual entries. Demonstrations by girls and club members won ribbons, with several projects advancing to the state fair. Diane Bettis topped the dress revue with Catherine Sinnott runner-up. Mosley and Martha Rouse also advanced.

Nazarene District Convention to be held in Des Moines West Campground

The annual Church of the Nazarene District Convention meets August 10 16 at the Campground in West Des Moines. Events include missionary convention August 11 church convention August 12 13 Sunday School August 14 and youth gathering August 15. Rev Roy Bettcher will preach each evening with Warnie Tippett and Olivet Crusaders providing music. Delegates Forrest Main Merle Johnson and alternates Mrs Henry Horn Bill Woodward attend from the local church.

Missionary Society Elects Nazarene Officers for Year

The Missionary Society of the Nazarene church elected officers for the coming year led by Mrs. LaVerne Smith as president and Mrs. Clyde Warren as secretary and treasurer. Other officers include Mrs. Henry Horn sept of study and Mrs. Forrest Main Other Sheep secretary. Delegates to the August missionary convention in Des Moines are named with alternates listed. Rev. Robert Wellman of Nicaragua to be the special speaker.

Three Moravia Properties Change Hands This Week

Three Moravia homes changed owners this week. The Fred VanDorins bought the Chase Platt house two blocks west of the square near the school from Lee Hiatts and expect to move in soon. Clarence Johnson and his wife of Orange California purchased the C. A. Turner home in the northwest part of town with possession immediate, but move date undetermined. Mrs F E Wheeler and Jennie Bland of Prole Iowa acquired the Don Tscherter home, the former Chester Sanders house in the northwest, with possession expected about September 1st. the Tscherters plan to move near Des Moines as housing is secured.

Billy Callen Undergoes Hernia Surgery in Centerville

Billy Callen, 12, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clair Callen, was operated on Monday at St. Joseph hospital in Centerville for hernia. He is reported recovering nicely, and his mother remains at the hospital with him.

Stixruds to Show Film at E U B Church

The Stixrud family will present the Pictures of the Belgian Congo at E U B Church on Wednesday evening August 11. A cooperative supper begins at 6 30 PM and the public is invited to view the film starting at 8 PM.

Wedding Bells Ring at Moulton Methodist Church

Miss Barbara Jean Jay and Wayne Richard Lindley wed in a Sunday ceremony at Moulton Methodist. Rev Banks Doggett officiated before an altar of pink and white gladioli. The bride wore Chantilly lace over nylon tulle and satin with a lace peplum, veil, and a bouquet on a white Bible. Attendants included Marilyn Pickering as maid of honor and Nancy Lindley as bridesmaid. Reception followed in the church basement with a pink and white theme and a four tier cake. The couple will live on a farm near Movadia after September. Guests came from multiple Iowa towns and states.

Lightning and Wind Strike Moravia Area Fire and Damage

A severe storm hit Moravia around 4:00 a.m. Tuesday bringing heavy rain and lightning. A bolt struck a barn at Lige McDanes Property, igniting flames and spreading to rear structures at Luther Caster Property. Electricity outage delayed siren. Firefighters prevented further spread. The McDanes barn was insured. A large maple fell onto the home of Guy Vincent near the former Milwaukee depot, damaging the roof and house. heavy rain later caused additional house damage.

Moravia's softball team travels to Boone for the state tournament game at 8:00 PM. The squad enjoys a 4 Picnic supper at Ledges State Park before meeting Prairie City in the opener, a team with a strong record. Moravia awaits new uniforms and jackets arriving soon, with other players purchasing gear.

Moravia Tournament Team Delays Game and Travels

Late Wednesday afternoon Jack North of Des Moines said the game would be postponed to Saturday. Grounds were wet but both teams planned to proceed. Lovers and buyers braved heavy rain Thursday to bid on the Martha Coulson estate personal property sale south of Moravia. Prices included a 1927 Chevrolet 240 dollars, Organ 105 dollars, Two cherry rockers 68 dollars, Brass bucket 16 dollars, Dinner bell 23.69 dollars, and other antique items. R. R. Heavy rainfall floods Moravia area over two nights

About four inches of rain fell in Moravia Monday and Tuesday night. Monday night brought around 1.5 inches with 2.6 inches recorded Tuesday night. Reports from southeast of Moravia suggested seven inches for the two nights. Heavy electrical storms accompanied the rainfall.
