Large Number Entries At Monroe Fair 4-H Winners
The Monroe county 4-H fair opened with crowds at the pony show and rodeo. Livestock entries include 117 baby beeves, 120 sheep, 63 dairy cattle, and 50 hogs. Local 4-H members earned blue ribbons in shorthorn, Guernsey, and Holstein categories. In sheep Kenny Ellison led with grand champion pen, while Mark VanZante secured blue ribbons for two pen and individual entries. Demonstrations by girls and club members won ribbons, with several projects advancing to the state fair. Diane Bettis topped the dress revue with Catherine Sinnott runner-up. Mosley and Martha Rouse also advanced.

The annual Church of the Nazarene District Convention meets August 10 16 at the Campground in West Des Moines. Events include missionary convention August 11 church convention August 12 13 Sunday School August 14 and youth gathering August 15. Three Moravia Properties Change Hands This Week
Three Moravia homes changed owners this week. The Fred VanDorins bought the Chase Platt house two blocks west of the square near the school from Lee Hiatts and expect to move in soon. Clarence Johnson and his wife of Orange California purchased the C. A. Turner home in the northwest part of town with possession immediate, but move date undetermined. Mrs F E Wheeler and Jennie Bland of Prole Iowa acquired the Don Tscherter home, the former Chester Sanders house in the northwest, with possession expected about September 1st. the Tscherters plan to move near Des Moines as housing is secured.

Wedding Bells Ring at Moulton Methodist Church
Miss Barbara Jean Jay and Wayne Richard Lindley wed in a Sunday ceremony at Moulton Methodist. Rev Banks Doggett officiated before an altar of pink and white gladioli. The bride wore Chantilly lace over nylon tulle and satin with a lace peplum, veil, and a bouquet on a white Bible. A severe storm hit Moravia around 4:00 a.m. Tuesday bringing heavy rain and lightning. A bolt struck a barn at Lige McDanes Property, igniting flames and spreading to rear structures at Luther Caster Property. Electricity outage delayed siren. Firefighters prevented further spread. The McDanes barn was insured. A large maple fell onto the home of Guy Vincent near the former Milwaukee depot, damaging the roof and house. heavy rain later caused additional house damage.
