Local residents frequent gatherings and visits across Hiattville. Mr and Mrs Virgil Dooley and others attended socials at Lloyd Roses and Centerville. Ice cream socials and pink and blue showers feature community life with many families listed by name.
A flurry of Sunday and midweek visits fills Moravia and surrounding towns as families, friends, and neighbors share meals ice cream and hospitality. Several outings to Albia Osceola and Centerville accompany hospital and church events while notice of a fatal auto accident near Morris town prompts family tributes.
Miss Doris Proctor spent Thursday afternoon with Minnie and Clara Herteen and Lucile Coltrain while Mrs. Mattie Fletcher helped cook for threshers on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rudd visited at the John Herteen home Sunday. Edith Blumer has returned home for several weeks to help with housework at the Guy Streepy residence near Udell. Jeretta Taylor came home Saturday after a visit with grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Edd Taylor. Donald and James Rhee dined with Bert Drake Thursday. Elsie Swasick returned Saturday from Centerville where her daughter Mildred is ill with appendicitis.
The Two O clock Club held its annual guest day party on Tuesday July 18 with Mrs N L Harrington and Mrs Agnes More as cohosts. Prizes from mystery boxes went to Mrs Dale Hetzler and Miss Agnes More who donated them to guests. Refreshments were served by the hostess. News notes include visits and relocations in the area and word of deaths and family health updates.
Scattersburg residents visit families across Elbert Lockman and Tomlin homes. Emery Coltrain’s oat batching for Gilliland’s. A social and ice cream supper is planned Thursday at the Scattersburg schoolhouse with all invited. Sunday School at Scattersburg at ten. Bernard Hayes and son were seen visiting.
Social rounds in Centerville area include dinners at the Hiatt and Carter homes with many relatives and friends visiting Sunday. Attendees also at an Legion and Auxiliary picnic, a kitchen shower for Maxine Tucker, and an ice cream social planned at Wesley chapel Thursday evening.
Centerville area residents host and visit kin through a busy Sunday. Attendees include Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Brown, Mrs. H. A. Lemaster seeks improvement after hospital stay, and many others at dinners and services. Epworth League plans a play, flower garden quilts framed for Detroit and Dakota, and task groups like the Ladies Aid assist with events and ice cream on the lawn. Funeral for Milt Zimmars noted in Mystic with regional church attendance and distant relays of mourners. Kathryn Bogge, China missionary, returns furlough and will speak on air raids experiences Tuesday Sigourney meeting.
Salem and nearby households conducted social calls and suppers for threshers and neighbors. Attendees include Mrs. Leonard Perry, Mrs. Elbert Perry, Mrs. Minnie Ringhart of Albia, Mrs. Susan Callen of Maywood Ill, Dell Hellyer home hosts, and several others. Sympathies extended to Harry Brown and bereaved families.

Mary Marie Williams visited Friday night with Gwendolyn Le master. Mr and Mrs Irl Palmer and children of Flint Mich Sadie and Claude Palmer spent Thursday at Frank and Hymer Hamilton s. Miss Togue Palmer spent Fri day night with Gwendolyn Le Forast (Buster) Hamilton spent Saturday night with Darrel Le ter. Melvin Van Zante of Eddyvile visiting at John Way Zante s Mr and Myre. Roland Mertzand Mr Joy Patch of Waukesha Wis came Saturday morning for 3 weeks visit at the Homer Hamilton home Mrs Mertz is their daughter Irene. Ray Lemaster left Monday night for a visit with relatives in Wyoming. Mertz of Waukesha and Edd Dellani couples visited Glenwood Missouri with Blackledge residents of Monroe Indiana for a Sunday outing at the Jake Limbo ame. Henry and Lew Clark threshing week says this is their 1 st consecutive year with poor yields due to dry weather and chinch bigs. Wanda Jones visited Delmont Moffitt near Walnut City. Circla meets Thursday afternoon with Mrs Lora Lockman.
Coulson and Mrs Luse and Hetty called at Ernest Hiatt home Sunday evening. Several families visited neighbors Sunday afternoon and many attended Harry Brown funeral in Iconium. Pre nuptial shower for Maxine Tucker held at Ted Tucker home in Centerville Friday night. Plans made for ice cream social at Wesley Thursday night July 27. Various visits to J R Callen home and others noted in ongoing community life.

A colored man in the Shuler coal mine near Des Moines unhooked his mule from the mine cart to save it when mine props cracked and slipped. He died as slate fell. the mule escaped. The act was performed without crowd or applause in a dum-lit tunnel.
