Rural Directors Meet To Consolidate Funds

Rural school reorganization proceedings moved forward at Moravia schoolhouse on Wednesday night as directors from affected districts agreed to divide assets and liabilities proportionally to the new district. Moravia and related districts face about $41,000 and $20,000 balances to transfer, with Vosburg not present and possibly pursuing legal action. Final asset divisions await valuation data including personal property and utility assessments from the state board, after which the boards will reconvene. The State Department reports 45 reorganization actions in 38 Iowa counties from April to July 1, with about 250 rural districts eliminated and 20 high school districts affected.
