A personal trip to sunny Florida leads to a tale of travel wear and tear. The narrator notes the car requires repairs and a new floor mat after comfort driving on icy and snow packed roads. The Mrs. endured leaning to assist with driving during the journey.
A Yakima Dwight D. Eisenhower school band of 104 students tours to Washington for the Kennedy inauguration mission. The trip costs 30,000 dollars, with 10,000 funded by band mothers and the remainder by civic groups. The trip notes local political leanings and school setup in Yakima and includes references to Eisenhower High and nearby schools.

Members worked on nut meats and quilting. Nancy Hawk received a birthday gift. A mystery pal valentine was planned to be mailed. Next party February 10 with sandwiches cookies and four drinks. Next club February 1 at Amy Hiner s. Welcome to the new baby boy of Mr and Mrs Fred Christy.
Mr. J. M. Beck of Centerville will be guest speaker at Grace Methodist Church on Wednesday evening February 1. He will show pictures from his world trip. The evening starts at 6 30 with a pot luck supper and all are invited.
Mrs Milton Stocker entered St Joseph hospital in Ottumwa on Monday and underwent major surgery Tuesday. Her children in the vicinity are at the hospital with her.
A February 3 meeting of the NOFIOQ Taylor Aid group is scheduled with host Mrs Bert Meadows. The brief notice lists only the organizer and date with no additional details.
Mr and Mrs Keith Morlans welcomed a baby boy Friday at St Joseph hospital Centerville. Local social notes mention visits and gatherings across Enon including the Bentzinger, Dommer, Stocker and Hawk families with church events, dinners and community meetings.

Lin Rinehart and family joined by Delbert Calhouns and boys visited Dick Brown on Wednesday Evening. Wayne Thompson spent time with his mother Nellie Thompson and Pearl Kelsey and Patty visited Nellie Thompson over the weekend. Various relatives and friends including Carol Christy and Pat Kelsey attended events at local homes and the Iconium Methodist church Friday evening.
Dale Uhling, county extension director, attended the Franklin Farmers 4-H Club meeting at Eddie Knowles home. Leon and Shirley Calhoun spoke on Fire Hazards, Eddie Knowles demonstrated ee & Rations, and Bruce Sela Thompson presented Why and Where of Money. Visitors included Mr. Uhling, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Knowles, and Margaret. Refreshments were served by Eddie and his mother to leaders and members.
The Union Farmerettes held a regular meeting January 19 at 7:30 PM at Joyce and Garry Roberts home. Becky Wilson called the meeting to order as the group recited the pledge. A new unit is planned for the room and the secretary pressers report was read. Gerry Wilson led a discussion on 4-H calendars and upcoming project planning.
Lore Marie Besco born May 19 1901 near Blakesburg died Jan 5 1961 at her daughter's home in Des Moines age 59 years 7 months 16 days. Married to Howard Besco Sept 12 1922 two daughters Doris Martie John Son and Lora Mae Buchholz. Funeral Saturday at Albia Christian church Rev Donald Plum officiating burial Hillcrest Moravia.
Eight members attended the January meeting of the Monroe Busy Maidens held January 9 at Linda Davis's home. Margaret Herring helped prepare a color pinwheel chart for the record book. Martha Rouse spoke about the painting Blue Horse and members learned tips to maintain a good personal account book. The group adjourned after repeating the 4-H pledge. Refreshments were provided by Mrs. Ralph Davis and Linda.
Lenora Paris Miller reports Connie Miller's hospital stay for dental extractions and updates on local gatherings. Families including Hughes, Strunk, Burton, Paris, and Tubaugh share visits, birthdays, and church events. A stepfather’s Knoxville funeral is noted with services by Rev. Roscoe Morrison, plus local Monopoly games and a ball game outing.
