Youth Groups Lead Sunday Eve Service at E U B Church
Youth fellowship groups conducted the Sunday evening service honoring youth week at Evangelical United Brethren church. The theme was Into All the World. Mark VanZante presided and Rev A Richardson delivered. Mr and Mrs Lester Sawyer and Jimmie Hoyer were guests at J R Hoyer's Hillsboro home. Jimmie of Newton spent the weekend with his parents.

Golden Links Honor Oatie Whicker Shower
The Golden Links class with teacher and husband Mr and Mrs Zell Callen hosted a shower for Mr and Mrs Oatie Whicker at Evangelical United Brethren church parlors. About 85 people attended a carry in supper. Gifts were opened by their daughter Mrs Carl Corbett and daughter in law Mrs Max Whicker. They received about $100 in cash with $25 from the a8. The Whickers live on a farm owned by the Dows. Fire damaged their former home leaving the upstairs and basement a total loss. The evening ended with visiting.

Callen and Vandorin Lead March of Dimes in Moravia
Mrs Clair Callen and Mrs Sylvan VanDorin chair the Moravia March of Dimes effort for polio funds with assistants listed. The Southern Iowa Six conference tournament begins Monday at Moravia high school gym with three games, followed by three games Wednesday, then semifinals Friday, consolation Saturday and finals Saturday night. It’s the first Moravia tournament in years.

Whicker Home Destroyed by Fire
Fire Wednesday evening January 25 destroyed the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Katie Whicker 244 miles southwest of Moravia. The house owned by Mrs. Gail Burton and Mrs. Icle Davis of Henry Nebraska burned after smoldering in the attic, aided by zero temperatures and water shortages faced by Moravia firefighters. Most first floor furnishings saved but clothing and keepsakes lost. a diamond ring and another ring frozen together in ice were recovered with a clock. The Whickers now reside at the former Ted Miller farm. A church shower and thanks to neighbors followed to aid replacement efforts and express sympathy from the taxge Golden Links Sunday school class and local churches.

Arnold badly injured aiding coal unload at firm home
L Arnold sustained a cracked pelvis and bruises after being pinned between a truck and a coal building while helping unload coal at Donner Sander firm home. He was moved by truck to Moravia then Albia hospital and placed in traction with about 30 days’ confinement before transfer to Des Moines Veterans hospital.

Miss Janet Dixon Rural Worker for Appanoose County will lead a four session Moravia Methodist circuit school of missions in February from 7 to 830 PM. Sessions rotate Grace Fairview Wesley Chapel churches with slides and filmstrips. The study uses Safe in Bondage by Robert W. Moravia high school girls lost a heartbreaker 81 83 in overtime to Blakesburg Tuesday night. Moravia led most of the game 73 73 at regulation, then Blakesburg pulled away in the extra period scoring 10 points. Taylor scored 48 for Moravia with Route 32 and Easter 6 contributing. The Moravia boys topped Blakesburg 89 37 behind Eddie Oehler 26, Larry Hope 14, Jim Ellison 12, Kenny Ellison 6. Friday ends the regular schedule with Moulton visiting for two games.

Leon J McDonald known as Oklahoma's Soil Evangelist will be guest speaker at Centerville high school auditorium at 7:30 p.m. on Friday Feb 3. Delmont Moffitt announces open meeting inviting all including 4-H and FFA members. McDonald, Oklahoma's Billy Sunday of soil conservation, has spoken across seventeen states and in several Iowa communities. He has 20 years with Soil Conservation Service and is assistant state conservationist based in Stillwater Olde. Mr and Mrs Billy Lockman and family moved into the Ora Easter property, owners of the D X Oil Station on the square.

Four Step Plan Outlined At Moravia Public School Meeting
About 150 residents gathered at Moravia school to discuss district futures and standards. They backed four steps for improvement: industrial arts, a shared guidance counselor, addition of foreign language, and a part time school nurse, leading to a projected $20,000 budget increase. Seven favored no change, seven backed full Blakesburg-Moulton-Udell merger, and 102 supported local improvements.

Moravia welcomes a new laundry with a grand opening on Saturday offering free wash and dry services from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. The facility features 16 Norge washers, 5 extra large dryers, and a 25 lb large washer, plus free coffee and doughnuts for visitors. Owner Don Himstern of Pella operates the service.

The Moravia Garden Club gathered Wednesday afternoon at Mrs Art Fox's home for the January meeting. Mrs Gerald Morgan was ill and not present. Mrs Zell Callen presided. Twelve attendees participated in bird gossip and a bird pie bringit. A June 1 district flower show date was set for Moravia. A conservation report was offered by Mrs Harley Tisue. Mr and Mrs Guss Luse celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary with an open house at their Moravia area home on Sunday February 12 from 2 to 5 pm Friends and relatives are welcome. They were married February 15 1911 at the bride's mother's home in Moravia by Rev Bonnell United Brethren pastor. They have two sons Gerald who died in 1945 and T J and his family live on a neighboring farm. They have lived in Moravia area since 1914 and prior on a farm four miles southwest of Moravia.
