The editor and Mrs. Ramblin plan a sunny trip while Carol recalls Alabama cold. Local students enjoyed an extra vacation day due to a faulty furnace at the school. The town jokes about someone riding a wheelbarrow for a trip.
Mrs Theo Miller Coulson and Mr and Mrs Herb Boblenz Connie visited Ottumwa Sunday evening to see Mrs Carl Boblenz. Friends learned Mrs James Cline had fallen and fractured her hip with an operation planned for Tuesday morning. Mr and Mrs Bob Houser and children were dinner guests at the Paul Houser home. The Burns and Jimmie moved to the late Tom Workman farm Friday. The Everett Hawks are at the Cridlebaugh farm. Ernest Hiatt and Sandra visited Ottumwa Monday. Theo Milles and Lute Hiatt hosted Friday evening. Everett Hawk was in Centerville Monday.
Mrs John VanZante notes a cooperative dinner in honor of January birthdays at the Frank Woodward home while Emory Kehrberg and family visited. Cyril McDanel attended a shower at Wayne McDanel and then spent the weekend with Ken Johnson. Ben Jones dined with Cyril McDanel and later with Forrest Main. Monroe Hospital Auxiliary luncheon attendees included several named residents. John Van Zante and family visited Sam Shepard and Earl Van Zante in Pella.

Loyd Landgrebe and Carl Landgrebe at home Ottumwa. Linda Gardner visited with Judy Over and others including Mrs Dick Brown and Sally then called on Mrs Ed Haver and baby. Aubrey Christy helped Doyle Christy celebrate birthday. Bert Rinehart and Mary Lou joined gatherings at Dale Fenton, Dell Hellyer and others. Bridal shower for Carolyn Kirkland hosted by Dixie Sheston. Dick Brown and Don Whitehead hosted Sunday dinner. Barbara Christy hospitalized with pneumonia. Aubrey Christy visited granddaughter. Bert Rinehart and Mary Lou called at Dell Hellyer Sunday afternoon.

Ottumwa hospital admission for Vera Moore on Wednesday with a planned Monday operation was noted along with wishes for a speedy recovery. Dick Brown celebrated a birthday with a Thursday evening supper at his home, attended by Jim and Paul McAninch, the Dicks, and the Moores. Numerous visits, dinners, and weekend gatherings occurred at various homes including the Browns, Argos, McAninchs, Calhouns, and Loyds, with a Democrat luncheon in Albia on Saturday and surprise dinners hosted by Roy Argo on Sunday.

Laten Atwell and Emmons Atwell visited the Herbert Brinkley home Sunday evening. Joe Angaran and family from Centerville visited T. C. Youngs Sunday.
The Urbana Doers met January 6 at Nancy Aber's with Carol Crist leading the American pledge. Fifteen members attended including Mary Proctor, Eloise Leffler, Judy Gillen, Madelyn Sinclair, Martha Sinclair, Carolyn Archer, Josie Proctor, Diana Faber, Judy Foster, Cathy Faber, Nancy Faber, Linda Ward, Nancy Ward, Carol Crist, Jeanne Hawk. Seventeen visitors were present. Acknowledgments were received from the Salvation Army and King Retarded Children School. Treasurers report was read. Old business covered payment of past bills.
