Changes at Courthouse as Walter Harper Is County Supervisor

Walter Harper of near Unionville was sworn into a two year term as county supervisor amid last week’s courthouse changes. He succeeds retiring board member R. Wilson. Harry Stickles was elected chair. Verna Harper, Moravia’s ace girls basketball player, is named as related to the family.

Moravia appoints Rowe as County Assessor in reorganized office

In Moravia last week Lloyd Rowe was sworn in as County Assessor as the reorganized office begins. A new County Clerk will follow March 1 with Jim Minhes set to take over, rounding out the 1948 election changes. The town buzzed over mysterious reports of a high altitude aircraft, while locals warn against overreacting to rumors and urge caution before sharing unverified sightings.

Moravia Beats Cincinnati In Tuesday Night Clash

Moravia stifled Cincinnati's offense in a Tuesday game, led by Lilian Rick with 30 points and Janet Broshar adding 14. Jo an Callen scored 12, Joyce Hiatt 11, while Moravia's defense limited Cincinnati to 28 points by halftime. The Moravia lineup featured strong performances from Broshar, Lockman, Harris, and Merton Rose on defense, setting up upcoming trips to Moulton and Pulaski.

Hiatt Burittels Wedding Guests and Details

The Hiatt Burittels wedding was celebrated Sunday afternoon with attendance from many out of town guests. Mrs Runnella wore a beige gabardine suit for the going away ensemble and the couple plan a honeymoon before settling in Moravia. The bride, Miss Marilyn Hiatt, managed the guest book and gifts were placed on display by Miss Delma Veach. The groom, Mr. Runnells, formerly in the Moravia school and army, is then an assistant manager at an A P store in Centerville. Numerous relatives and friends from nearby towns attended the reception and celebration.

4 H Club Meeting Notes at Swan Harsh Home

Betty Harsh hosted a Tuesday meeting of the 4 H Club at the Swan Harsh home with president Robert Hiatt and secretary Ann Pettibone. Minutes were read, a plan for future programs discussed, and a raffle to win an electric clock. Attendees included Ann Pettibone, Sandra Hiatt, Kerry Pettibone, Betty Harsh, Robert Hiatt, Robert Carter, Jim Pettibone, Billy Harsh, and leader Charles Burton. Board of Supervisors December 23 1949 proceedings

The Board met in adjourned session with all members present and passed a resolution to quitclaim to the Pure Ice Company of Centerville Iowa all right title and interest in described real estate in Numa Appanoose County for one dollar. The action corrects title to the property from the United Mine Workers of America Local No 875. The deed conveys the south 28 feet of Lot 4 and north 17 feet of Lot 5 in Block 2 in the town of Numa except coal.
