A reflective diary style piece notes seasonal change from January to spring and the challenges of childhood fashions and groceries. It recalls flu illnesses, thawing vegetables, and family routines with a humorous tone as the writer and household cope with ordinary domestic trials.
Eight pupils enrolled at a small Monroe county school north of Mora on Highway 60. Students include Dale Easter May Gay Donna Jean Rogers Pauline Keaman James Kaster Phys Forgy John Kaster and Eimmy Rogers. The six weeks tests ended, half the year complete. We bought a reading table cork bulletin board and other items with box supper funds. Nature Study covers insects birds and geography. First graders read I Know a Secret while third graders study geography of Iowa. The class prepared a manger scene with Wise Men and gifts and made Christmas gifts and cards. Parents were invited to a Christmas program and a week of vacation followed. Twenty one visitors so far. latch string is out for curious guests.
Mrs W C Easter compiles a patchwork of New Year and Christmas visits. Families and relatives including Sticklers Moffitts OConners Boyers and Easters gather at Foster and Gladfelder homes, share dinners and calls across a sprawling community rosters of names and places in Dakota Oklahoma and Ceterville appear throughout the social ledger.
The Union welcomes new Moravia Telephone Co. owner Don Wolf and his family, who moved from Keosauqua to reside in the Austin Jay property on Wabash Avenue. They include Lloyd in the third grade and Wayne in the sixth. Mr. Wolf visited The Union office Monday to subscribe, expressing optimism about Moravia.
H B Blake of Knoxville plans to move to Moravia by February, buying John Dille acreage now home to the Merle Cottingham family. George L. Gollaher advertises cabinet work after a 3 year Ottumwa Naval Air Base stint. Moravia Masonic Lodge to honor a 50 year member, Fred Blumenstock, with a banquet and 50 year certificate. Bert Turner to Burlington to arrange furniture shipments from Chittenden Eastman. Reader asks address change to Cedar Rapids. List of new subscriptions to The Union follows.

Darlene Gladfelder visits with A W Kincade. Trenton Gladfelder Clyde Gladfelder Darlene visit Newton Long home. New Year dinner at Trenton Gladfelder home with families. Clyde Gladfelder Darlene visit Ray Harrison home. Lynn Fenton visits Kester Gladfelder.

Mra Inez Father reports James Williams and family Mrs Velma Bokholt and Mra Inez Williams traveled to Des Moines Friday for Chalmers Woodruff funeral. Ernest West and family visited Hugh Crawley family Sunday. Carl Coop and family visited parental Coop home Sunday. Commando clubs entertained their fathers Tuesday evening at W A Wilson home. Tubaughs will entertain the Rock club at Omega schoolhouse Thursday evening.
FLEASANT HILL reports visits for butcher work at Tarbell and McAninch homes, Carl Fenton and Viola Kingery families hosting, and a Mystic death as Medland’s father. Clover Leaf Club met January 2 at Martha Massman with embroidery tea towels and a dinner, attendance hampered by icy roads. next meeting January 16. A.A.A. township committee meeting held Thursday at Centerville.
The Moravia Union reports a donation of 1,000 tied to a farewell staples effort led by Bree and involving Pe Ca. The event marks a community gesture to support the paper as a local desk closes.
Wendell Murdy and Guss Luse attended a Triple A meeting in Albia Friday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Luse and Jerry spent the weekend with relatives near Des Moines. Mr. and Mrs. Murdy and sons were at Wayne Clark’s home Sunday afternoon. Ralph Davis visited Guy Argo’s home Sunday evening. Vess Hiatt was a weekend visitor at Guy Argo’s home.
Enon notes show numerous visits among residents including Carolyn Walter Sylvan VanDorin and Meryle Henderson plus family gatherings at Guy Roberts home. Rain cleared much of the winter air, filling cisterns and basements. Continuous social events include dinners, trips to Ottumwa Albia andCenterville, and neighbors visiting kin.
Albin shoppers visited on Friday afternoon including Mr and Mrs T R Gardner and others. Lute Hiatt received care after a dislocated shoulder Friday afternoon while Circle met with Mrs George Shahan. Several moves and visits followed including Finilsons to Albia and Whites buying the farm.
