Judith Ann Wagner and William A. Rose were married December 31 at St. Mary's Church Eddyville. The ceremony officiated by Rev. Ralph A. Thompson featured a lace gown, red rose bouquet, and a bridal party in coordinated red and white attire. Reception followed at the high school gym. both bride and groom worked in Des Moines.
Miss Ira Colleen Fenton daughter of Mr and Mrs C V Fenton Sr of Centerville became the bride of Alc Terry A Bryant son of Mr and Mrs B J Bryant of Tazewell Virginia at the First Baptist church in Centerville at 7 pm on Christmas Eve in a double ring ceremony attended by 75 guests The altar featured red poinsettias and candelabra The ceremony included music by Mrs Mary Houser organist and a vocal with Janice Johnson singing Because and The Lords Prayer The bride wore graduation from Centerville High and works in Harlingen Texas as a secretary The groom is stationed at the Harlingen airbase They will reside at 1008 East Monroe Harlingen Texas
The Moravia Garden Club held its regular meeting and officer installation at Mrs. Gerald Morgan’s home with Miss Eleanor Miller presiding. Officers installed were Mrs. Ira Boyer as president, Mrs. Morgan as vice president, Mrs. Zei Calen as secretary, Mrs. Harley Tisue as treasurer, and Mrs. Lee Hiatt as historian. A memory gift funded a library copy of How to Make Containers and Accessories for Flower Arrangements by Jean B. Amer and Alma S. Gray.
Mrs Boyer brought decorations for the event and was assisted by Miss Miller. Guests included thirteen and two attendees Mrs Leonard Palmer and Mrs Wendell Murdy. The January meeting is scheduled for January 28 at the home of Mrs Art Fox.
The Shanghai club met on Dec 31 with Mrs Eva Lee Walker for an all day meeting. A cooperative dinner was served at noon to listed members and guests. For the coming year officers elected were Lorraine Rinehart president Amy Hiner vice president Doris N Christy secretary treasurer and Dorothy Calhoun flower committee. The next meeting will be with Barbara Allen on Jan 14.
The Busy Maidens 4-H met at Marilyn and Jeanne Turner on December 30. President Martha House led the session with roll call as members sang a Christmas carol. New member Imogene Davis joined. two visitors attended. cocoa and cookies were served. reporter Sharon Gay filed the note.
The Union Farmerettes met December 19 1958 at Mrs Ralph Roberts with 10 members present and 24 attendees including 8 parents. Becky Wilson demonstrated color choices for different girls while Joyce Roberts served candy cookies and pop. attendees listed include Linda Proctor Lois Strunk Joanne Main Becky Wilson Peggy Rogers Ann Exline Rowena Cox Kathy Johnson Jeanette Pullen Paula Clever.
The December Taylor Toilers 4-H club meeting was at Jim and Max Argo's home. President Donald West led a party with nine members and two leaders. Members shared gift wishes, minutes were approved, and reports on gifts were given. Jerry Roblenz demonstrated knot tying and discussed sheep care.
The Union Livewires met at the Rogers home on December 18 at 8:00. Topics included weighing baby beeves and a demonstration on keeping fuel clean by Bob Rogers, plus a discussion on how to lift and carry a toad by Sherman Kelly. Leaders and members enjoyed cookies, candies, and cocoa.
Hazel Hellyer reports a Thursday afternoon gathering at the Deli Hellyer home with Mrs. Delbert Calhoun and the Lee and Perry families. Earlier, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Brown visited Wednesday evening at the Truxton home.
Mr and Mrs Jim DeWitt and sons of Ottumwa entertained at the Clarence Whitehead home New Years day. Clark and Hazel Hellyer took Donna and Terry Rose to their Des Moines home. Des Moines visits by Derby Calhoun and others. W S C S attendance at Iconium. many family gatherings and Sunday calls noted.
Monday dinner guests at the Trix ton Dicks home included Lillian Maulding and Jimmy of Denver plus Mr. and Mrs. Paul Dicks and children. Various families frequented the Dicks, McAninch, Massman, and Brown homes for suppers and visits. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Bill Spaur on a new son born December 31, with multiple local families mentioned in recent gatherings and sympathy extended to Lew Rinehart’s bereaved family.
Mr and Mrs Pan Dicks and Ghai Nie Dicks attended an Eastern Star gathering in Moravia Monday evening.
Mrs. Leo Hoffman hosts New Year’s Eve at Rex Hagerman home. Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Cooper plus family visit Circle members at John VanZante home. Waterloo guests include Mr. and Mrs. John Cooper. Coasting party at Lloyd Callen home features multiple families and friends.
Mrs John VanZante hosts Christmas gatherings at the VanZante home with Mr and Mrs Carl VanZante and families and Mr and Mrs Sam Shepard and families. Clair McDanel and family stay Friday night and Saturday at Cyril McDanel home. Lute Hiatt joins Sunday dinner at Carl VanZante home. Culbertson and MecDanel families and Francis Argo and family join Christmas at Cyril McDanel home.
