Stars and Masons Have Well Planned Installation

Public installation of Eastern Star and Masonic officers held at the Masonic hall at 8:00 pm. 1954 officers entered, followed by prayers and pledge. 1955 officers installed with pledge, songs, and gifts from Rainbow girls. Clyde Gladfelder, a farmer in the Main Station area, fell Thursday after catching his heel on a back porch step and broke his left arm near the shoulder. A doctor taped the arm to his body and he is recovering at home.

Mrs Inez Randolph fell Sunday at her daughter Chester Broshar s home and broke her right hip. She was taken to Albia hospital for X rays and later moved to Iowa City for further treatment. Mrs Randolph has lived with her daughter for several years.

Death of Creath Callen at Ogallala Nebr

Word arrived Tuesday of the unexpected death of Creath Gallen aged 50 from a heart attack at his Ogallala home. Born near Moravia, he moved to Nebraska young, survived by wife and three children, his mother Mrs Irvin Callen, brothers Lloyd Karl and Ivan, sister Mrs Melvin Collison, and relatives in Moravia Julesburg Sedgwick. Funeral services were held in Ogallala Wednesday.

District Director Frank M. Halpin described the new punch card Form 1040A as the simplest income tax return in 40 years. The card is for employees with wages under 5000 and no more than 100 in other income, requires no math, and is available at IRS offices banks and post offices. The taxpayer completes the front with ID income withheld and dependents, signs, and mails it with Form W-2. The IRS computes the tax and issues refunds or bills. A ten percent standard deduction is recommended over itemizing.
