Superintendent John T. Card, chosen as a delegate to the Iowa State Education Association assembly, attended nine meetings in Des Moines. The group urged higher state school funding, proposed a state board of public instruction, a minimum salary law, and exclusion of town teachers from Social Security with a state retirement plan. A home for retired teachers and other topics were discussed.

Al Derby spent the afternoon in Albia with Fred Sheldon. Rose Marie Holland weekended with her parents Pat and Mrs Navin. Emily Thompson visited Glen Turner Saturday morning. Ben Pickerell and Wayne traveled to Ottumwa to see Ben’s seriously ill father. Nellie Thompson and Carrie Turner visited Wayne Thompson’s family Sunday. Roads remain bad in the area, limiting news. Byron Cater visited Hart Swift Saturday. Wayne Thompson went to Lockridge Wednesday for seed cleaning.
Two Estonian students, Helde Asu aged 14 and Haedo aged 11, began schooling in Eldora on January 3 and were placed in first grade. Haedo quickly moved to fourth grade while Helde advanced to sixth grade, illustrating rapid academic advancement in a local program.

A tan automobile narrowly escaped when an elevator detached from a tow truck and rolled toward Mrs. Richard Weede and daughter driving west. They swerved to avoid it and watched the elevator collide with a bank embankment, but no one was hurt.
Deepfreeze resident Fred Widman sent a postcard to HM Wolfe addressed to Mr Wolfe at Deepfreeze Iowa. The card was delivered to Mr Wolfe at his home in Eskader and the Eskader Chamber of Commerce is wondering about the misaddressed note.
