The January meeting of the Moravia Garden club gathered 16 members with Mrs. Ira Boyer as president. Officers announced plans for a flower sale and show while discussing seed starting and winter bird feeding. Refreshments were provided by Mrs. Art Fox and daughters. February’s meeting will be at Mrs. Max McDonough’s home.
The postponed meeting of the W.S.C.8 of Grace Methodist Church met Friday Jan 30 in the church parlors. Refreshment committee included Mrs Doris Woodward Mrs Dorothy Turner and Mrs Lyle R Tillmont. Grace Veach led the study Isaiah Speaks and a skit on tithing with Mildred Bishop. Grace Whitehead led worship and the program. Next meeting is Feb 18.
The Shanghai club gathered with Dorothy Calhoun on January 28 for a noon cooperative dinner. Members and visitors present included Lorraine, Mike and Jimmy Rinehart, Cora Murphy, Allie Taylor, Hazel Rinehart, Iole Christy, Donna, Elaine and Joyce Christy, Bertha Overturf, Doris N., Barbara and Patty Jo Christy, Barbara, Mark and David Allen, Amy, John, Clarence and Floyd Hiner, Raymond, Perry, Dorothy and Delbert Calhoun. The afternoon included shelling popcorn and a business meeting where each person gave a favorite color. Secret pal names were drawn for the new year. Iole Christy won the guessing game. Family night is set for February 13 with sandwiches and potato chips. The next meeting will be hosted by Doris Christy on February 11.
The Clover Leaf club met Wednesday January 28 at Edith Callen’s home. Tasks for the day included hemming dish towels. After dinner, Bingo was played. Gifts were given to Janice Moore Verda Argo and Helen McAninch by their secret pals. Phyllis Dicks received the guess what. Members and guests present included Mr and Mrs Roy Argo Mr and Mrs Bill Moore and Dougie.
The Urbana Doers 4-H club met February 2 1959 at the home of Jeanine and Joanne Hawk with Martha Sinclair presiding at 8 30 pm. Members participated in a Valentine exchange and games. A motion by Mary Proctor and seconded by Linda Ward raised $15 for the Childrens Retarded fund. Attendance included Cathy Faber Judy Gillan Barbara Darby Carolyn Archer Nancy Faber Madelyn Sinclair and reporters Jeanne and Joanne Hawk with Nancy Carol Faber listed as reporter.

Dorothy Pickrel called at the Leo Hoffman home Thursday forenoon. Mr and Mrs Leo Hoffman spent Friday in Bloomfield. Verta spent the afternoon with her mother Mrs Emery Melton while Leo attended the community sale. Sunday dinner guests at the Lloyd Callen home were Mr and Mrs David Callen of Sigourney, Mr and Mrs Dewey Lark and family of Albia, and Mr and Mrs Gene McCrory.
New Hope and Gladys Harsh return from Town City Tuesday to Friday evening. Mrs. Schrodt observed in hospital, reported improved. Wes ley Chapel M Y F met with 18 present Tuesday evening. Union services planned at Wesley Chapel on Hawaii topic. W S C 8 meets Thursday at Doris Boblenz home. Many local visits and Sunday gatherings noted among Harsh, Donovan, Wilson, Pettibone, Carter, and Paxston families in Moulton area.
Salem residents visit relatives and attend church gatherings at Iconium M E Church and MY meeting in Moulton. Mrs Delbert Calhoun joins Friday talks with Dick Brown and Hiner family members. Several couples travel to Washington DC for the National REA Convention and host weekend family time in Centerville Ottumwa and Centerville area.
Local notices describe social visits and weekend gatherings. Multiple families including Swift, Brown, Thompson, Callen, Derby, and Whitehead are listed with events at various Iowa towns.
Larry Derby phoned Sunday afternoon from W. G. O Haras, leaving a message for concerned parties about a local matter.
Mary McClurg Administratrix of the Paul McClurg estate asks the court to approve her final report and discharge. The hearing is set in Centerville Iowa on February 21 1959, and interested parties may appear to contest the discharge. Guernsey Powers attorneys represent the estate.
