Corn Hog Contract Signups Rise as Farmers Cut Acreage

The township corn hog training schools are finished and thousands of Town farmers have signed corn hog contracts agreeing to cut corn acreage by at least 20 percent and hog production by 25 percent. In many counties a four or five member committee handles complex sign up issues, assisted by extension workers and state committees. Township leaders warn farmers to complete their contract copies promptly.

Farmers urged to report accurate yields for earlier benefit checks

Township committeemen trained in sign up work tell farmers that precise corn and hog production figures speed Uncle Sam payments. If many ad justments are needed by township and county allotment committees, contracts slow and benefits delay. Wheat payments totalled 80 million dollars, under half of the first installment. Town benefits reached 224,695 dollars, up over 8,000 since the last notice. Secretary Wallace proposes a tentative dairy production control plan with a processing tax on butterfat and all milk products, with payments based on production or reduction, possibly starting April 1. A.J. Black notes exports and domestic demand fail to absorb current price depressions for corn and hogs, urging actions to reduce breeding and planting losses.
