Mr and Mrs Wolf completed five years in Moravia as managers and owners of Moravia Telephone company after purchasing January 1 1946 from Geo H Spangler. They added 40 phones to the town switchboard and contributed to civic life, including Masonic and Eastern Star work and local projects.

The children's missionary group met December 13 with Linda and Merrill Coulson and 20 members present. They studied the Larger Parish text and The Three Henrys and Mrs Hornicle. Mrs Gardner led a discussion on the Invitation from the Thirsty Village. Plans were made to raise money for an Indian school. Marian Condra showed festival parade movies. Linda and Merrill served punch and cookies.
Monroe county teams claimed the Chariton Valley Conference title at Russell last week. Melrose boys beat Lucas for the boys crown, while Lavilia girls defeated Lucas 70 to 41 for the girls title. Lavilia posted a strong tourney pace, beating Derby 68 to 25 and Woodburn 63 to 3 en route to the final, averaging 67 points per game. Belle Owen set a scoring record as Lovilia’s boys fell early to Melrose.
Mrs C C Miller hosted the Union Neighbors club on Wednesday. A cooperative noon dinner followed by an afternoon textile painting lesson led by Mrs Williams and Mrs Tadlock. A Christmas gift exchange was held with members including Mrs Russell Alden and Mrs F E Boyer among the attendees.

The Women’s Foreign Missionary Society of the Church of the Nazarene met Wednesday afternoon at Mrs. M. H. Johnson’s for December. Mrs. Johnson read scripture and Mrs. O. G. Woodward gave the opening prayer. President Forrest Main led the business, lesson leader was Mrs. William Woodward on the capital city of Praia. She read two letters from a German woman describing local conditions and gratitude for sent boxes of food and clothing. Guests were Mrs. Lloyd Davidson, Mrs. Keith Gladfelder and Mrs. Robert Grubbs.
The December church night gathered over fifty attendees in the dining room of Evangelical United church. Mrs. John VanZante, Mrs. Harry Woodward, and Miss Kathleen Halden led a program with singing scriptures readings and a Christmas dialogue by Ronald and Mark VanZante. Kathleen and Viola Hammod directed games and a white elephant exchange followed by refreshments. The January night committee includes Mrs. Claude Hawk Mrs. Kenneth Condra and Bill Bishop.
