Case of Rabbit Fever Reported in Moravia

The first rabbit fever case in Moravia is Mrs. Tom Underwood who fell ill after handling rabbit skins two weeks ago. She showed skin symptoms last Friday and has been bedridden since, though she is reportedly improving at home.

Delmar Wilson was named Worshipful Master of Antiquity Lodge No 252 A F and A M for 1934 at the annual election. Moravia boys defeated Attica 14 to 11 while Moravia girls fell 17 to 15 in a hard fought basketball doubleheader. Attica showed size advantage. Moravia boys played without guard Donald Easter who is expected back next game. Blakesburg triple header set for Friday with a 7:15 start and MP S band to provide music.

The Moravia Co-operative Marketing Association sent three loads of livestock to the St Louis market on Monday. Two loads of hogs moved by rail and one load of cattle by track. Manager C O Jones accompanied the shipment.

District Legion Auxiliary Officers Visit Moravia

Several distinguished visitors and officers of the American Legion Auxiliary attended the Moravia unit meeting Tuesday evening. Guests included Francia Bickert district Fidae Chairman Gladys Weatherstone Monroe County Chairman Goldie Chambers Albin Unit president and officers. The group planned a project to gather old magazines in Moravia and surrounding areas.

Ethel McCrory and Paul Coffin united in marriage at Unionville Missouri on Tuesday. Rev Robert Burns officiated with Mary Coffin and Jerry Houser as attendants. The bride wore blue crepe and the groom dark blue. They will reside in Moravia following a 7 o clock supper at the groom’s parents home.

Salvation Army Building Dedicated to Parents in Red Oak

The Des Moines Register shows the new Salvation Army building in Red Oak erected by Mrs. J. L. Haines as a memorial to her late parents Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Arga. Dedication services were planned with Cant. L. Mortensen of the Red Oak post in charge. Commissioner W. McIntyre of Chicago was the speaker. The building cost about $6,000.

Another Bank Dividend Soon for Moravia Bank Depositors

A ten per cent dividend payment for Moravia Farmers & Merchants Savings Bank depositors was ordered and checks will be distributed by examiner B J Johnson once received. Johnson expects delays but aims to have them before Christmas. About $16,500 will be distributed as the second ten per cent dividend since the bank closed in 1930.

Corn-Hog Meeting in Taylor Township Wednesday Eve

A meeting at the Morayia town hall Wednesday evening will discuss the Corn-Hog program under County Farm Bureau Agent Lee Bowdish. Farmers from outside Taylor township and other interested individuals are urged to attend as a temporary county committee will be named to lead the program before forming township and county organizations. The Apanoose county warehousing committee includes L. B Montag as chair, C. A. Bailey as vice chair, Paul Strickler as secretary treasurer, and H. A. Lemanter and J. M. Bishop as members.

Must Register Before January For Car Storage Benefit

County Treasurer Haught urges car owners to register at the treasurer's office and sign an affidavit of storage to receive the storage benefit and avoid license fees. Applications should be made in December to qualify before the February 1 1984 delinquency date.

J F Chambers of south of Mora via was summoned to Igmeatown Indiana by the death of his brother Manson Chambers who passed away at his home Sunday after a several month illness. He was about 76 years old.

A county wide American Legion meeting will be held at Mystic Monday evening December 11 at 7:00. This follows Basil Cowell Post Moravia's regular meeting night and aims to adjourn in time for the county gathering. All service men and Legion members are urged to attend the county meeting.
