Miss Brain Seriously Injured In Auto Wreck

Local relatives report Annie R Brain was seriously injured Monday after losing control on a frost covered bridge on highway 64 65 near Bondurant. Her car plunged 15 feet down a creek embankment, rolled 150 feet, and she was thrown from the vehicle. She was hospitalized at Iowa Lutheran in Des Moines with severe shock internal injuries a fractured right shoulder and fractured ribs.

Twentieth Century Club Meets With Mrs Felton

The Twentieth Century Reading club met Tuesday afternoon with Mrs Melissa Felton presiding. The program directed by Mrs Charles Coffin featured a round table discussion on TV and radio personalities and their favorite entertainers. Mrs Tisue led pencil games during the gathering.

Clifford Davis was elected president of the Monroe County 4-H Fair board in the annual board election held last week. Roy Ellison became vice president and Lester Poole secretary-treasurer. J. E. Moravia Garden Club hosts annual coop dinner and meeting

Moravia Garden Club held its annual cooperative dinner and regular meeting at Mrs. John Veach’s home with 15 members present. Eleanor Miller presided. a blue ribbon award from the Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa was received at the Ames convention. Plans for a December fair, Christmas packing day, and decorations were set.

Methodist Men to Close Clothing Drive

The Methodist Men's organization will close their drive for used clothing to be remade for Japanese orphans on December 8. This is the last week before it is sent in. People with used clothing may leave it at Gardner Hatchery or at the Methodist church.

Moravia Teams Fall to Blakesburg in Tuesday Games

Moravia boys and girls lost to Blakesburg on Tuesday night. Girls 69 to 37, boys 57 to 49. Moravia’s Underwood led with 16 points, Vincent 15, Mason 8. Troy and Moravia boys had recent overtime win history.

Masonic Officers Re elected For Year

The Moravia Masonic lodge re elected A. D. Kincade and other officers for the coming year at a regular meeting Monday night. Dinner was served at 7:30. Re-elected were Boyd Paxaton senior warden Carl Hiatt junior warden P K Horner treasurer Harold Mason secretary and George Scott trustee. Kincade will appointive officers soon. Joint installation with Eastern Stars planned for early January.

Moravia merchants to give away 18 free turkeys

Local merchants plan a Saturday draw with 18 free turkeys to be distributed to residents. Six turkeys will be given away each Saturday for the next three weeks, with Santa Claus expected to join on Saturday December 20 to greet children and provide candy.

Obituary for Roe Ahee Ahee Moravia farmer dies at 67

Roe Ahee, son of Henry and Belle Ahee, born December 8, 1890 near Ash Grove Iowa, died November 22 1958 at his Moravia home at age 67 11 14. He farmed near Unionville for 63 years retiring in March then moved to Moravia. He married Grace Hudgens November 24 1915 and had 3 children Dorothy Polson James and Donald. He joined Union Chapel Christian Church in 1923 and later attended Christ ian church in Moravia. He belonged to the Blakesburg IOOF lodge. Surviving are his wife, three children, ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew. Funeral was Tuesday November 25 at Turner Funeral home with Donald Plum of Albia presiding. Burial at Asdenville. Card of Thanks expresses gratitude for flowers, food, cards, letters and memorial service volunteers.

Woodward Progressing After 20 Days in Traction

Ronnie Woodward, confined to Monroe county hospital for three weeks, shows steady progress according to Dr Fox a Ottumwa bone specialist. After 20 days in traction he may be taken out this week if X rays are satisfactory and placed in a cast or brace. He will remain hospitalized afterward and appreciates the many cards and letters.

Adult Classes at School House Focus on Law and Sewing

Adult classes continue this evening at the school house with both men and women attending. The men's group led by Attorney Joe Griffin of Ottumwa will discuss farm laws live stock liabilities and related farmer regulations. Methodist Group Meet at Centerville Church

Appanoose County Methodist Group Ministry met Friday in Centerville with fourteen delegates, two substitutes, and five ministers. Virgil Dooley presided. Rev Frank Johnson led prayer. Minutes, bylaw reports, and leadership training plans were reviewed. sessions set for January 8, 15, 22, and 29 with speakers Merritt Dieterich Cliff Knight and a Des Moines office volunteer. Next meeting January 29 after the training. refreshments served by Centerville church ladies.

The Moravia Garden club will stage a Holiday Fair on Friday December 5 with doors opening at 4 00 o clock. Mrs Nellie Williams serves as general chairman. The event offers Christmas gifts dried material food baked goods and candy plus a lunch of hot sandwiches pie doughnuts and coffee for the public.
