Mrs Don Wolfhg announces sale of Moravia Telephone Co to Russell Hughes. Possession to be given soon as the Hugheses move to Fairfield where he has highway work. They have two daughters married and one, Cheryl Jo, will enter kindergarten. Hughes, a seven year telephone worker, is brother of Mrs Wolf. The Wolfs will stay through the school year then move to Keosauqua.
Mrs Dan Brackett 88 died Saturday at daughter’s home in Des Moines area after long illness. Funeral held Monday at Humeston Funeral Home Albia with Rev G S Bruland officiating. Born Dec 15 1864 in Bell County Kentucky she married James Johnson in 1883 and had son Gabe. Later married Dan Brackett. moved to Monroe County in 1900. Surviving seven children include Gabe Johnson Moravia Delia McCrory Ottumwa Jen Kutch New Sharon Lulu Moses Des Moines Roy Brackett Galesburg and George Brackett Watago. Also brother Charles Locker Woodward two sisters Margaret Chidester Albia Molly Carnes Kirksville. 40 grandchildren 62 great grandchildren 11 great great grandchildren.
Mr and Mrs Mearl Walter hosted a Thanksgiving dinner for their 30 guests including George Simmons Sue Karen Aubrey Walter Loren Walter Shirley Ann Sharon Joyce Connie Maurice Walter Marcia Marvin Gardner Yvonne Rita Linda Dennis Sylvan VanDorin Marie Debbie John Wilson and other family members at their Centerville home with two turkeys and all the trimmings.
Members of the 3B's club met at Evangelical United Brethren church with sponsor Rev. Evan Stroud to plan their annual Christmas party and gift exchange to be held before Christmas. They purchased a new tent for summer camp and other activities. Committees were appointed for the party.
Mr and Mrs Ray Tubsaugh areparents of a 9 lb 10 oz daughter born Saturday November 29 at St Joseph hospital Centerville. Grandparents include Mr and Mrs Albert Tubaugh and Mr and Mrs Lee Tadlock. Daughter named Drenda Gee. A son was born Sunday to Mr and Mrs Jack McDonough at the St Joseph hospital Centerville. Grandmother Garnet McDonough. Mr and Mrs Roy Adams Ottumwa parents of a son Timothy born Nov 19 at Ottumwa. Elsie Adams paternal grandmother returned home Friday after five weeks with her son and family.
Santa Claus will distribute treats to children at Maddison Hardware for the store’s grand opening on Saturday December 6 In the evening fathers and mothers receive free coffee The Union advertises the event.
The Moravia Garden Club met at Mrs. L. M. Williams home with 21 members and guests. Plans were made for the Holiday Fair to be held Saturday December 6 at the Legion home with noon doors and lunch for sale. The club will join Booster Club for a decorated window contest open to all. Members noted a report from Albia’s Garden Club division and prepared gifts for shut ins.
Mrs Dan Brackett died Saturday after a long illness at her daughter Lula Moses Bacon's Des Moines home. Relatives from Prairie Du Lac Wisconsin Galesburg Illinois and nearby areas attended the funeral held Monday in Alma.
The Sew and So club held its final November party Friday at Carl Van Zante's home with Mr and Mrs Harold Mason as cohosts. Rook was played with prizes to Harry Woodward and Eva Van Zante, Mrs Alberta Spencer received the traveling prize. Fruit salad cookies and coffee were served at the close.

Readings include Sunday worship times at Unionville 11:00, Wesley Chapel 8:45, Fairview 9:50, and Sunday school at 9:00 or 10:00, plus MYF meetings, midweek board meetings, and Universal Bible Sunday on December 14 with Charles Wells of New York noted as a guest analyst and artist bio.
A Methodist church urges giving thanks to God and invites all to Sunday school and worship. An oyster supper is planned for Friday evening December 5 at the church, inviting the public to join in a sociable evening.

Moravia's Garden Club members are recorded for a 10:45 pm broadcast on WHO radio. Del Donahoe hosts his first program Hawkédge Holiday featuring the garden club and its aims. The forthcoming Holiday Fair at the Legion Home on Saturday is highlighted.
The Past Matrons club held a dinner and Christmas party at Mrs. C. C. Coulson's home. Mrs. George Scott was elected president and Mrs. Leonard Palmer secretary-treasurer at the business meeting. A Christmas gift exchange occurred during the social evening.
Bright red plastic hearts will be distributed by volunteers on Saturday December 6 as part of the Christmas seal drive. Mrs. Ralph McDonough reports the hearts will be placed at Veach Drug Winslet Grocery Deweys Place Post Office Ro lands and Burtons. Two school children volunteers will sell bangle pins replicas of the red double barred cross and small hearts with proceeds going to the 1952 Christmas seal fund.
Dr. W. B. Miller of Centerville will display 4 1 on his auto plate this year. He stood outside the courthouse from about 2:00 a.m. in a snowstorm until 4:00 a.m. when the license sale opened. G. L. Olson, who held the coveted number 1, arrived with Orville Freeborn and David Stewart. Numbers 23 and 4 were issued to them. The 1993 plates are black on white with slightly smaller numbers and two plates per car, front and rear. The slogan The Corn State appears on the bottom. Early rush ended around noon after about 160 sold. sales slowed afterward.
Dennis Paul Fife, second grade son of Mrs. Clifford Boyer of Los Angeles, Calif, will represent his school at the Art Linkletter House Party on Friday December 5. He will be heard at 2 15 pm on WMT radio and at 1 45 pm on channel 3 in Omaha. Mrs Boyer is the former Miss Jeraldine Winsler, with Mrs Fanchen Winsler as the boy's grandmother.
Members of the Junior Garden Club will meet at 2 00 p m Saturday December 6 with Mrs Warren Du Val for a Christmas party. Four programs are planned the lesson will cover Christmas decorations.
Moravia Masonic lodge members met for the oyster supper and honors. W A Rose, formerly of Hiattsville now of Memphis Mo, received a 50 year certificate. The lodge elected a slate for the coming year with Ray Charity as Worshipful Master and other officers named, appointive posts to be announced later.
Miss Patty O'Hara daughter of Mr and Mrs W G OHara and James Ed McGee son of Mr and Mrs Bill McGee were married at 9:00 am Saturday Nov 29 at St Marys Catholic church Melrose. Father McGrath performed the double ring service. The bride wore lace and white satin with a long train and seed pearl tiara, carrying red roses. Miss Helen Marie Morrisy was maid of honor in a lime green velvet gown. altar boys were Bernard McGee and Billy Scott. A reception for immediate families followed at the Kendall Place Albia. Mrs McGee is a Moravia high school 1951 graduate.
Rev Fred Brown of Greenville Illinois preached at the Grace Methodist church Sunday morning. A vocal solo by Ray Harris of Detroit with Mrs Brown at the piano. George Luciani of Iron Mountain Michigan spoke to the MYF Sunday evening, offering guidance to the youth.
Thanksgiving supper honoring Merton Rose, home from college, was held Thursday evening at the Francis Kincade home. Attendees included Jerry Pettibone, Bob Carter, Rex Hagerman, Bob Wilson, BN Moore, Skip Broshar, Udell residents Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Whisler, Ernest Kincade, Etta Dugan, Francis Kincade, Joyce Ann and Joan Stevens.
Taylor Aid will meet Wednesday December 10 with Mrs Mary Meadows as hostess in a community gathering announced for the association.

Moravias girls beat Mystic 88 to 44 and the boys 60 to 38 in tight contests. Joyce Brain led the girls with 18 points, Katie McDanel added 18, while Bill Bishop led the Moravia boys with 18 and John Veak added 8 as Moravia rode a strong second half to secure both victories at home. Mystic trio Lynn and Kennis sparked the visitors while Cincinnati is noted as upcoming competition.
