Mr and Mrs Kingery of Gary Indiana hosted a farewell gathering for four boys headed to the army. Guests included Mr and Mrs Raider Mr and Mrs Woodie Woolworth Harold Virin and others from Gary Hammond Moravia and Berneice Clayton Billie Gana Kingery. Dinner was cafeteria style and gifts were given to the honorees.
Maple Grove School raised funds at a box supper on October 26. Net proceeds totaled seven dollars, with excess funds used to buy a United States war savings bond. Virginia Gibbons teaches at Maple Grove.

A cooperative dinner gathering was hosted at the Johnson home with Barnes and family of Albis Russell Gillaspie and family of Blakesburg along with Mrs Torn and others. The event featured a Thanksgiving theme with an afternoon program and planning for future community get togethers for Christus.
A western port report from Tomy Main, second class sea man, says Thanksgiving aboard ship fed 2,600 navy personnel with royal turkey, dressing, gravy, potatoes, cranberries, fruit cake and milk pie. Sailors received packed nuts, candy and cigarettes as part of the meal. His brother Jay Main serves on the same vessel.
Dean Faber and Frances Jane McGilvrey were married Thursday evening in Unionville Missouri with Rev. George Swan in charge. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs George McGilvrey of Albia, is a Moravia High School graduate class of 1942 and the groom, a Moravia High School alumnus class of 1941, left Monday for Woodward where Faber had been employed.
The first in a series of twelve Red Cross home nursing sessions was held Monday evening at Mia McFatridge's home with 21 attendees. Nomie A Michaelson, Appanoose County public health nurse, urged mothers with young children to enroll. next meeting planned for the McFatridge home Monday evening.
New officers for the Woman's Society of Christian Service of the Methodist church were elected Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. D. E. was named president with Mrs. William H. Young as vice president and Mrs. Lester Bruin as recording secretary. Other officers include Mrs. W. L. Palmer as acting secretary, Mrs. Ridge as missionary education secretary, Mrs. John Veach as local church activities chairman, Mrs. Stella Carter as literature secretary, and Mrs. Frank Selby as supplies secretary. The meeting proceeded with devotional lead by McFatridge and remarks by Mrs. Bralls Carter.

Mr and Mrs Emidst Mangle of Albia announce the marriage of their daughter Batty to Edwin Spencer of Red Oak son of Mr and Mrs Paul Spencer of Moravia. The ceremony occurred on Nhan Giving Day at the United Brethren church Albia with Rev C L Young officiating. Mary Powell of Albia served as brides maid and Johnny Spencer of Moravia acted as best man. The couple left for Red Oak to reside.
Work started last week to refinish the Moravia United Brethren church interior. During renovations services will be held in the church dining room. Ray G. M. Talbott, the pastor, stated this morning. Fred Hammond and Freeman Tolly lead the project with volunteers helping clean woodwork for refinishing.

Others include Russell Spavin to Fort Sam Houston, N Burdell Roberts to Fort Custer, Dayton Dotson serving in England, John William Johnson aboard a receiving ship at Norfolk Novema, Raymond Plants at Camp Wolters, Dwight Johnson enlisting for Great Lakes training, and Max Gollaher enlisting in Des Moines.
Corp Francis Clell Coffin Fort Leavenworth arrived home for a 14 day furlough with his parents Mr and Mrs Garland Houser. Guests at the Coffin home include Joyce of Centerville and Duane Cartin. Nearby visits include Mr and Mrs Harold Burton and daughter Diana Gail of Knoxville with Mr and Mrs Tom Cameron. George Max Gallahay and Zell Callen families were among local social guests.
Moravia’s United War Fund received another $10 boost from a free will offering at a Moravia concert by the high school band. About 180 people attended featuring Dennis K. McDonald as baritone soloist and a male quartet with McDonald, G. G. Peterson, Karl Tattlem, and John Laws. Max Wren gave the invocation and David Pullman the benediction. The donations were turned over to Dr. D. K. Orelup, fund chairman, raising cash contributions to $186.
Mr and Mrs D E Bishop celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary at their Milwaukee Avenue home on Thursday with a noontime turkey dinner. Their children from Des Moines Betty Bishop a Cedar Rapids school instructor and Ber fading Bishop a Fairfield Parsons College student attended and presented a sterling silver buffet set to their parents.
Mr and Mrs Gabe Johnson hosted their children for Thanksgiving dinner. Afternoon visitors included Jim Davig Wilma Jean Jack Bonnie of Prairie Du Lac Wise and others. Scout and Coast Guard members visiting on furlough were mentioned along with Army enlistee Forrest Burk. Past Matrons club held a meeting with Gollaher for election of officers.

Families including the Carlsons, Gashwilers, Bishops, Jones, Talbott, Creekmur, Swain, Swaim, Neff, and Tadlock gathered across towns such as Numa, Mediapolis, Centerville, and Rockford, reflecting a strong community tradition of holiday visiting and feasting.

Tuesday with coupon surrender, sales were restricted and some pumps remained locked. Local officials warned that storing gas risks voiding fire insurance. Farmers attending Moravia high school evening class at 8 p m Friday will learn more about machinery repair. Instructor John Lashwiler urged cooperation to share ideas so more farmers can attend despite limited funding. Classes will be in the manual training room.

Henry Eccles and children Eldon spent Friday visiting Moravia and brother P Von Tracy remains at St Joseph’s hospital Centerville with unchanged condition.
