Fire destroys two barns at Tubaugh Farm near Moravia

A Tuesday noon blaze at the Albert Tubaugh farm four miles southeast of Moravia destroyed two barns and their contents including grain hay baled wool and small equipment. No livestock were lost. A west or southwest wind fed heat toward the house. Moravia firefighters protected the home while Albia firefighters stood by. Water was drawn from a farm pond to combat the flames.

Stockers Observe 50th Anniversary at Moravia Open House

Mr and Mrs Gomer Stocker were honored with an open house on Sunday November 28 at the Moravia community building for their 56th wedding anniversary dated November 24 1915 in Albia. Guests from Ottumwa Fairfield Bloomfield Mystic Unionville Fort Dodge Albia Centerville Moulton Woodward Des Moines and towns in Illinois attended. Only one of their children Mrs Fairy Fullerton of Gillett Wis could not attend.

Fred Brain Suffers Heart Attack in Wyoming

Word from Chugwater Wyoming reports Fred Brain suffered a heart attack at his home on November 22. He was transported to a Wheatley Wyoming hospital for treatment. He is a brother of Mrs. Fis Helms and Mrs. Clarence Johnson.

Young Farmers Class Meet Thursday Night

Moravia Garden Club met with Mrs. Art Fox presiding and co hosts at the Clarence Johnson home. Twenty one members attended as departments outlined Dec 4 fair plans opening at 9 a.m. and program at 2 p.m. Christmas toy drive for American Home Finding Association collected toys for Ottumwa. Members urged candy and cookies for shut ins. Local social news noted visits from Centerville and Missouri guests.

Loyd Carter, a surgery patient at Des Moines Methodist Hospital, was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital in Centerville on Wednesday noon. He is slowly improving from the surgery.

Moravia Teams Sweep Blakesburg in Two Games

Moravia kept its season flawless by taking both games from Blakesburg. The girls dominated 73 to 30 with strong first and second quarters, while the boys edged out Blakesburg 63 to 56 in a fast paced contest. Church group discusses leasing Rathbun land in Moravia

The Town and Country Commission of the South Iowa Annual Conference of the Methodist church met at Grace Methodist church in Moravia with Dr. Donald Konitz in charge to discuss religious needs around developing recreational areas in South Town focusing on Rathbun Dam. Plans consider a long term lease of land on Rathbun Lake for church use.
