Mr and Mrs Don Ewing and family and Mr and Mrs Cliff Burger from Unionville recently returned from a long motor trip to Alaska. They carried Moravia Iowa’s wooden sign and set it among hundreds of others on the Alcan highway praising the journey as highly enjoyable.
A 1200 mile trip with 80 miles paved describes rough Moravia to Unionville terrain. Five days to Fairbanks, 22 days overall vacation. About 87,000 attended the state fair, boosting cash registers. A VW-car aided a livestock pavilion inclined ride. People observed horse judging and noted Rev. Elton Coleman changing address to 1120 4th Street Des Moines. Coleman takes a sabbatical to write at Drake, with a book ready, The Gods We Worship, and does bookkeeping for the Brown Hotel. Their son Gary will attend Roosevelt High School in Des Moines and works at Howard Johnson’s.
The Union Farmerettes 4H club met in Albia Iowa for an August recreational gathering. Leaders guests and mothers attended a fried chicken dinner at Tower Lanes followed by swimming and bowling. attendees included Hope Judy Debbie Diana Kelley Hopkins Thomas Roberts Miller Bolin and Irelan with others listed as mothers and guests.
E H Seales says Appandose and Monroe Counties may develop income producing recreational projects with Farmers Home Administration supervised credit. About 1,100 farmers and rural groups borrowed $85 million in five years. 1966 profits averaged $1,387 with three years or more in business yielding $2,143. Youth camps averaged $2,670 profit. Loans offer up to $35,000 for operating expenses and $60,000 for real estate with 5 percent interest. real estate loans up to 40 years, chattels seven years. The Board of Supervisors of Apps County met in regular session with Carl Evang Gait W. Felkner and Loyd N. Carter present. They transacted the following business and allowed the following claims including general fund accounts and payrolls with numerous items for supplies maintenance and salaries. Resolution items include permits approved cigarette permits suspensions and a farm to market road project. Adjourned to meet at the call of the Auditor.
