Prolonged dry and heat severely reduced soy bean yields with few pods and immature beans, while corn shows varied condition and some late plantings hope for rain. Rain fell at Moravia and Centerville with mixed effects. Moravia Park hosted multiple events including a tent evangelist, garden club picnic, family reunions, and preparations for fall activities.
Entry notices show Mrs Ivyl Tarbell and Mrs with Mr in the culinary department. Tarbell has a long list of winnings in the past, and the event invites strong participation from 4-H clubs.
Callers and visitors this week include Mr. and Mrs. Jay Wilson and family, Harold Hudgens, Wilbur Cloyed and Chris of Des Moines, Robert Hutchings, Ed and Phil of Lawton, Doris Wilson, R. C. Wilson, Iv il Tarbell and family, and many others visiting in Mystic, Battle Creek, Denver, Cedar Falls, Moravia, Centerville, and nearby towns. Social events featured a Phillips reunion, a layette shower for Bobby Dean, an ice cream social by the FFA, and cooperative suppers, with frequent family and extended kinship visits across Iowa communities.
Miss Nancy Crabtree spent Tuesday night and Wednesday with her friend Margo Parson at the Lloyd Brown home. Families from the Dell Hellyer and Calhoun households met in Sigourney and Centerville for visits.
The record lists numerous visits and social events across families in the area. Faye Platt, Ruby Whitehead, Hazel Hellyer, Delbert Calhoun, Lloyd Brown, Pearl Runnells, Susan, Amy, John, Clarence and Floyd Hiner, and others attend homes, club events, and open houses from Wednesday through Sunday. Several pairs travel to Des Moines, Centerville, Sigourney, and Aurora for visits and sales.
Ottumwa hosted the 4th district meeting of Veterans of World War I. Locals and relatives circulated visiting Ottumwa, Centerville, Chesterton Indiana, and St. Louis. Family gatherings included dinners, ball games, and sightseeing with multiple Ottumwa residents hosting or visiting kin from Gary Indiana Barber Miss Moravia and Unionville among others.
Moravia chapter officers attended a Lake Red Haw training camp held August 20 at 9:30 a.m. The session included group leadership discussions, talks on leadership, ceremony practice, advisor-led leadership material, and recreational boating swimming or fishing for attendees. Gerald Hawk reported.
