Unionville and surrounding areas host a series of events from August 24 to 26 including Old Settlers activities, free bean dinner, and M E Ladies gathering. Families travel to Des Moines for Legion events while residents reunite at Wild Wood park Ottumwa. The Stufflebeam family reunion draws about 125 people with music readings and a church program.
Albia Union-Republican reports the Cramer room formerly housing Anderson Hardware Co. will be leased to Brody Store for September first. Harry Brody and son Alfred visit Albia to finalize arrangements and redecorate as stock arrives. Brody's Centerville store will be divided between Albia and Centerville locations.
Berkman family members gathered at the home of Fred Mose north of Unionville on Sunday August 14. Attendees included George Berkman and family, Mary Moss and Avery’s daughter, Joe Himlock and wife, Roy Himlock and wife, Phil lip Evans and family, Tom Henderson and family of Frederick, Floyd Greenlee and wife of Corydon, Wilbur Ogden and family of McLeansboro, Hi Hugh Moss and wife of East Linn, and Fred Moss and family of Unionville.
Hiatisville residents Harley and Bernice Hiatt visited from Atlanta Missouri for several days. Bayard Neff and Fiona Wales toured Rockford Illinois guesting with Mr. and Mrs. Lester Powell. W A Rose and daughter Dorothy called on Lementine Tucker at Moravia. B Utterback family spent Sunday at H N Utterback’s. Theo Thompson visited relatives near Fedayville. E Tucker Scott Tucker Mrs Orpha McDanel and E F Tucker joined Roy Scott for Sunday dinner. Sunday's Sunday School officers election scheduled at Wesley. Wayne Hiatt injured nose by fall and is under doctor care. Corner stone laying at Moravia drew many locals. Rain Tuesday was welcome. Bethel Coulson and Irene Phillips weekend with Ottumwa relatives. John Laws and family visited Geo Lane parents near Princeton. Geo Laws’ mother accompanied them home for visit.
Cary McCoy called at the John Selby home Monday evening while farmers finish threshing and look toward the Monroe County Fair. Paul Kelso and Howard Robinson left for Malvern after a week with the Robinsons. Dan McCoy and family visited the Vance home near Eddyville. Mattie Selby Angel toured town Monday. John Stocker and relatives shared Sunday dinner. Mrs Amos Robinson of Des Moines visited with Grandma Stacker who is very ill and Robinson moved to St Joseph hospital Ottumwa. Cary McCoy and family joined the Abernathy reunion in Kirksville, Mo, for a fine trip with cats. Francis and Stella Robinson were in Ottumwa Monday.
Maple Grove reports show Hazel Cropper and her young sons visiting in Parkersburg with the Dobnson family while Albright and her daughter from Des Moines spent Sunday with sister Mrs Keith Rose. Hicks family reunion at Ottumwa is noted along with visits of J L Dodd relatives near Columbia and various Callen kin at their home.
N. G. Wilson home Sunday. Several locals attended the corner stone laying for the new M. E. Church on Sunday. A good rain fell in the area Tuesday morning.
The M E Church Auxiliary announces Friday dinner and upcoming services at Wesley Moravia and Scattersburg with Epworth League events. A Corner Stone ceremony last Sunday drew a large crowd, brickwork advances, and daily progress with materials on order. Pledge payments are encouraged to fund ongoing construction and aims to avoid crowding.
Sunday School at 10 a m with Mrs Mc Kern as superintendent Communion at 11 a m Ladies Aid meets Wednesday afternoon at the church.
Farmers welcomed the fine rain on Saturday. Families such as Holman Hellyer and Argo relatives shared weekends at various homes. Jimmie Argo was hospitalized after an incident last week. The Christ ion Church youth group toured to Philadelphia for homecoming and donations. The Argo reunion drew a large crowd for a plentiful feed.

The fifth annual Callen reunion is announced to take place at the Orval Smith Grove three miles west of Moravia on August 28. All Callens and those related are invited. Secretary
