ISU Bridgeport Plant Goes Standby Under Clean Air Plan
Iowa Southern Utilities confirms Bridgeport generating station near Eddyville met Iowa IDQ clean air rules after converting from coal to oil. Since 1973 about $1 million was invested in boiler conversions and storage tanks to reduce fly ash and sulfur dioxide emissions. The plant now operates as an intermediate peaking unit due to age and cost, with potential further changes costing up to $3 million to satisfy federal expectations and oil allocation limits.
