Honey Creek State Park to be one of state’s finest park
State officials report rapid progress at Honey Creek State Park with 83 percent completion across multiple phases. Current funding totals include 626000 state funds and 320000 Bureau of Reclamation funds, plus a requested 540000 state allocation to be matched by federal funds. The project features a water intake structure, large storage tank, lagoon sewer system, 35 rest rooms, two-lane boat ramp, superintendent and water officer residences, and a large camping area with modern facilities and a public entrance two miles west of Iconium. The plan also includes an eight foot fence around the park and no private-property connections to the water or sewer systems. A nearby fish hatchery project below Rathbun dam, with 50 acres of ponds, will be the state’s largest, supported by a gravity-fed water line from the lake and residences for hatchery staff. The commission notes planned landscape plantings by the Corps of Engineers and ongoing development in Rathbun area.
