Local Chautauqua in Unionville ends after a well attended run. Esther Ward vacationing with friends at Fairview Minnesota. Many townspeople hosting visitors from Moravia, Attica, Tama, Chicago and Des Moines. Reports note varying reception to numbers and a rain-deprived south.
Des Moines relatives spent Sunday with Hugh Lewis. Willie Wilan and wife with Fourrest’s Mary and family and Roy Darby visited Zell Wilson home. Curtis Goudy and family in Ov Lounina Saturday. Willard Cohagen and wife at M M Darby home Saturday. Sunday School held in Poster Sunday.
Mrs Elmer Murphy and children spent a few days at the Tish Murphy home. Rev Matgler and family vacationing in Minnesota. Mrs W S Kelsey treated at Abbott hospital. Hellman grandchildren visited Chicago. John Brown family at A J Beach and Elmer Swift homes. Pearl Reynolds and Elva Hiner wed in Albia. Maisy Eaton visiting Ottumwa and picking blackberries. Neighbors gathered for Mrs Dick’s birthday. others motored to Ottumwa for business.
HEDGE COLLEGE aer Lloyd Luse and family of Center villa spent Sunday evening at the G. I. Luge home. Kathryn Rea stayed with Dorothy Davis. Ruth Johnson visited Ella Cain in Albia. Warren DuVall and family spent Sunday at Dutch DuVall's. A Farm Bureau picnic was held at the James Long home with a cafeteria style dinner at 1 PM. Ice cream and cake at 3:30. Reverend Hobson led services. Numerous visits followed through the day.
Maple Grove residents Mr and Mrs Cash Watson and children and Charlie Watson spent Sunday at the Harry Glick home. J R Cullen and family visited Daniel Glick in Centerville. Hicks reunion drew attendees from Ottumwa. Centerville calls and Chautauqua attendance noted. Enid Luse and Edwin visiting, with Rebs and Ardis Callen hosting young friends. Families from Ottumwa and Drakesville joined at various homes for a good time.
Manon Jurgensen, 21, of Los Angeles drove a Chevrolet roadster 2020 miles in 56 hours 47 minutes to set a Pacific coast to Omaha speed record. Accompanied two thirds of the way by Joe Rolley the trip averaged 06.5 mph, with only a tire change and fuel stops. On the return he cut Omaha to Denver to 14 hours flat, aided by Harold Beyer as passenger. The feat showcases practical transcontinental touring amid good roads and reliability of the Chevrolet vehicle.
