Legion and Churches Sponsor Song Festival
Basil Cowell Post of the American Legion together with the Churches of Moravia and vicinity will host an old fashioned song fest next Sunday evening August 10 at 8:00 outdoors on the north side of the community building. Committee members include Zell Callen as chairman Mrs Harold Burton as vice chair and representatives from all churches. Public invited no song books. hymns everyone knows. Legion members are asked to wear capes. Moravia school band will provide special music, a loudspeaker system will be used, each church contributing a part, a special choir on the platform, and a song leader directing with piano accompaniment.

Wayne Davis former publisher of The Moravian Union has purchased the Seymour Herald from W C Dorr and took possession August 1. Davis a World War III veteran and former Seymour linotype operator recently joined the newspaper trade. Dorr, also a Moravian, ran the paper for about 14 years and has not announced future plans.

John Willia Kenton son of Wm H and Mary C Kenton was born near Confidence Town on December 28 1892 and died July 24 1947 in Albia Hospital at age 64 years six months twenty six days. He lived in Russell Omaha and Moravia and worked for Burlington and Mexico and Orient railroads before farming near Russell and Moravia. He married Ina May Lieber July 10 1923 in Decatur Illinois. five children Mary Ellen Roy M John R Fay Roth and Dorothy June survive with siblings Adda Ashba and Martin J Kenton. His wife died March 6 1936. He was regarded as industrious and upright and deeply devoted to family and community.

Brothers Meet Here From Half Way Round World For Dad Funeral
Roy and John R. Kenton, sons of John W. Kenton, arrived in Russell Saturday night after journeys spanning more than ten thousand miles. Both are in the U S Navy. Roy, an officer, was on a Newfoundland return cruise when he learned of his father’s death and, with his wife, traveled by auto to Russell. John R. was in the Aleutian Islands when the message arrived and flew 7,000 miles to Russell the same day. They called on Sunday at noon, one from Omaha, the other from Burlington.

Moravia Fire Department prompt action Saturday afternoon saved a chicken house owned by Claude and Sadie Palmer and possibly nearby residences. The origin is unknown. the fire started in a vacant lot between two properties. Dense weeds and grass fueled the flames before discovery.

A group of wanderers met at Ralph Shelquist home on Tuesday evening July 26 to learn the ways of the Knights of the Open Road. They practiced secret code, discussed hobo tricks, and planned a reunion basket dinner for families connected to the Sew and So Club at Moravia Park on August 31. Felton Family Back From Wyoming Vacation Visit
Harry Felton and daughter Helen returned Sunday July 26 from a ten day trip to Wyoming. They traveled to Rawlings and Cheyenne and attended Frontier Days with about 20 000 people. Felton spent Friday and Saturday on his farm noting a promising wheat and barley harvest.
