Night Herron Sightings At Milwaukee Depot Area
A crested night heron with a black crest has attracted attention in Milwaukee area maple trees near the depot in front of Jake Day and Gerald Morgan. Bird lovers identify it as a crested night heron with a white body, short square tail, and crest like a blue jay, larger than a crow. The species favors water or marsh habitats but nests in trees and feeds at night, sometimes traveling long distances to provide food for its young.
