Mr and Mrs Frank Swaim entertained Tuesday evening with four tables of rock. Winners were Homer Hamilton Zula Taylor Harry Pabst and Ira Boyer. Guest Mrs June Vance of Des Moines attended. Refreshments of ice cream cake and coffee were served.
Arthur Johnson was transported by Turner ambulance from the Bill DeTarr home near Albia to the University hospital in Iowa City last Wednesday. His wife Ethel, hospitalized in Ottumwa, is being cared for at her sister Mrs. Earl Bettis’s home north of Albia.
Mrs Preston Hedgecock acted as hostess Tuesday afternoon for the Twentieth Century club gathering with 14 members present. Roll call prompted responses of Why I Like Birds while Mrs Coffin and Mrs Felton discussed winter and summer birds for the home. Mrs Sawyer read an article From Spring to Summer from Readers Digest. Several members contributed clothing for the Salvation Army drive.
Marjorie Sandifer of Moravia sang with Freeman Hall at Sor Dor annual song fest for sororities and dormitories at Iowa State College. Twenty four voices were chosen from each residence. The sing held Sunday afternoon April 4 awarded trophies for best musical qualities.
Mrs Cora Main underwent major surgery at Laughlin hospital in Kirksville Wednesday morning. Mr and Mrs Almont Main traveled to Kirksville Wednesday to be with her.
Rev Evan Stroud leads Sunday School at 10. Harold Mason is superintendent and choir, with Bill Bishop as pianist for 11 am worship. Union W S meets April 9 at 7 30 pm, full-year attendance expected at Mrs Mabel Hawk’s home. Good Friday service April 16 1 to 3 pm at First Christian. Palm Sunday sermons and music mark the week.
Grace Methodist Church lists services led by Pastor John Grenfell and School Superintendent Mrs Karl Tuttle. Sunday School at 10:00, Morning Worship at 11:00, Evangelistic service at 7:30, board meeting after. Midweek features Junior Missionary meeting April 14, Prayer meeting at 7:30, powerhouse service described, and fourth quarterly conference with Dr Al Materry on April 15.
The Moravia Church of the Nazarene marks its first anniversary with Pastor Rev Kay Cox Andrew Maddison leading morning worship at 11 00 and Sunday School at 10 00. Evening service features a guest appearance by Professor Blackstone and family for Easter preparations.
The church schedules a monthly missionary meeting next week on Wednesday at 7 40 followed by the monthly board meeting Friday is a prayer and fasting day. Members are urged to fast from the noon meal and spend 1 00 pm at home in prayer for missionaries and a revival led by Rev W F T Evans and Mrs Birdie Main at First Christian Church with 10 am Sunday School 11 am Communion and 7 pm family night program
The church invites worshipers to observe Holy habits and enrich spiritual life through confession prayer Bible study and regular church attendance. Next Sunday marks the Triumphal Entry with a Palm Sunday service featuring special music. A special communion service will be held Thursday night April 15 with organ recital by Mrs Grace Whitehead and a male quartet performance.
Mrs Wiley B Rountree of San Angello Texas received an honorary lay membership in the Southwestern Association of Osteopathic Pediatricians. The honor followed a two day Child Health Clinic in San Angello sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Tarrant County Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons. Rountree, a speech therapist at the San Angello Handicapped Children's Treatment Center, is active in Girl Scout work and community groups.
Mr and Mrs Charles Broshar hosted a Sunday dinner as a farewell courtesy to Veril Easter who left Tuesday for New Jersey and will depart for Europe with the army on overseas duty.
