Milton Herald editor Lee Brown lampoons Chicago’s wait for 3.2 beer and 2.2 blend, noting clocks and midwestern delays. The piece contrasts eastern haste with midwest patience and cites Walter Lippmann’s 1930s reflection on Germany, German militarism, and the rise of reactionary forces.
Weather conditions force postponement of the Farm Bureau program to the next Thursday evening at New Hope School. If weather clears, the meeting will be held Thursday evening.
The Iconium Boy Scout troop reorganized, naming Perle Kelsey as scoutmaster to replace Rev. J. W. Zorba, who becomes Field Commissioner for Appanoose county. Migrant scoutmaster B. I. Whitehead is chosen. The committee includes Louie Priebe, W. C. Caulanson, Carl Calhoun, Jay Argo, Bert Nash, Bennie Whitehead, and Jay Massman. The troop, active in community ventures, plans several events this year.
Mrs. Loyd McCrory and Mrs. Roe McCrory of Moravia heard last week of the death of Ed Garmon of Bloomfield at his home there on March 29. Family members from the area attended the funeral including Mr. and Mrs. Harry McCrory and child, and Mr. and Mrs. Willis McCrory. Mrs. Roe McCrory did not attend.
Antiquity Lodge A F and A M Moravia held a special meeting as W A Smith of Albin received the past master pin. His father Rev JA M Smith of North Liberty Iowa attended and presented the award, with two other generations also present. None anticipated the surprise.
Unionville and surrounding area residents few hours away from Lincoln and Des Moines as a series of visits, dinners, and illnesses. Mrs. R. Rowe and Mrs. B. Bowers hosted BI BE aid event while sharing news of kin in Fairfield, Batavia, Moulton, and Center Villa hospitals. A remarkable 1-pound chicken liver shown by Audra Harriett highlighted a light anecdote from rural route life.

The R. Grocer Store in Moravia showcased a unique display last Saturday as part of a demonstration day. A company representative explained the origins of many products, noting 47 varieties of canned vegetables sourced mainly from Iowa farmers and over a million dollars paid to them last year.
Richard Cormack, a former Iconium resident, died suddenly in Golden Valley North Dakota at age 85. He worked as a milter at the Iconium Roller Flour Mill during its peak operations. He is survived by his wife Nancy Carmack six daughters a step-daughter Mrs Will Free and many relatives and friends.
Mr and Mrs R E Luse and Betty spent Sunday evening at the J R Callen home. Lyle Beery delivered gasoline and air Monday. Migger Edgie and Roba Callen spent the weekend at their home. Several residents attended a ladies aid meeting at Mrs Lute Hiatt home. Alice Campbell visited near Exline. J R Cullen and Mr and Mrs J C Cullen were in Centerville and Odell on business. The 20th Century Club met with Mrs J W Zerbe. Relatives from Tama Kansas City Coffeyville and Walnut City visited or were here for the death of Mrs Ellen Best.
From the Moravia Union dated April 6 1928 Sunday April 1 Methodist church dedication featured addresses by Dr W B Keegey district superintendent Dr James E Coons president of Iowa Wesleyan college and Dr A A Heath of Main Street Ottumwa a short Moravia band concert and basket dinner at noon church cost just over 27000. Richard Sneed won first in the oratorical division at the Pre District Declaratory contest in Fairfield.
City officials and experts plan traffic controls in Chicago during the Century of Progress fair from June 1 to November 1, 1988. Beacon City will provide motorist storage with attendants and no extra charges, promising a safe, convenient stop near the Lincoln highway. Rev Suenkel and Mrs Suenkel attended the United Brethren mid year conference in Toledo Iowa with Rev Hulse of Louisa.
W C Bivin, Shell Petroleum dealer in Moravia, returned from Des Moines where he joined all company representatives for a briefing on a forthcoming product. St Louis Shell officials announced a major advertising campaign across newspapers, outdoor ads, radio, and direct mail to introduce the product to motorists.
Mina Velma Louise Whicker daughter of Mr and Mrs W W Whicker of southwest Moravia Iowa and Trenton Lionel Gladfelder son of Mr and Mrs Clyde Gladfelder of the same vicinity were married Saturday April 1 at 5 pm in the home of the bride’s sister Mrs J U Smith at Reasner Rev H U Smith officiated. A dinner followed in honor of the couple. Present were Rev and Mrs H U Smith Mrs J W Whicker Dorothea Belle and William Smith. The bride a Maravian High School graduate and former rural teacher, the groom worked in farming and mining. They will reside on a newly purchased farm southwest of Moravia moving in a few months.
Showers school hosts a basket dinner and program for patrons and friends. April date announced with Mrs Grace Luse as teacher guiding the event.

Horner Niece W F Horner received word Monday morning of the death of a niece Mrs Frank Jacobs of Leurn Iowa Jim Mortock pump repairman on the Milwaukee railroad for almost fifty years is seriously ill at his home in Ottumwa He has many friends in this vicinity who hope he will soon recover.
Moravia High School graduates from Mrs Simmers normal training secure teaching contracts for next year across rural districts. Fifteen pupils, including Clarency Sheldon Lamar and Evelyn Hiatt Denny, will teach at various schools such as Fairview Elmora Enon Hazel College Mount Hope New Hope Playbird Grant Royer Foster Hedge College and North Bend under the program that enhances local teacher training reputation.
Moravia Iowa March 20 1933 special session discussed buying a school building for a town hall move and improve it. A later session swore in Frank Swaim to fill a vacancy and proposed a special election for April 27 1949 to purchase and move the building to the town square.

Iconium and Fairview churches publish Palm Sunday services at 10 and 5 AM with Sunday school at 9 AM led by Ralph Turner and Paul Boyer respectively. Activities include Boy and Girl Scouts, a Community Literary society debate on war debts, children's choir under W C Coulson and committees, Lenten and Passion week services across Tconium Hilton and Fullview, and invitations to join rural church efforts.

Fanny Wood visited her sister Caroline Hart Thursday. Robert Coltrain returned from Ottumwa to the Ray Coltrain home. Eleanor Strunk stayed Friday night with her parents. Emery Hiatt visited relatives in Moravia Sunday evening. Noah Stocker F E Boyer and daughter Morla were Sunday guests at the Koehler home. Jas Wood and son Floyd helped Charley Hopking with farm work Tuesday and Wednesday. W A Staith came down from Albia Monday evening.
