Athletic Association Meeting At Library

A group of interested men and boys gathered at the library to discuss forming an Athletic Association. A second meeting is set for next Tuesday at 7 45 p.m. to elect officers and finalize plans. Tennis courts are planned next week and a baseball diamond may follow. Stakeholders are urged to contact church pastors for enrollment.

Coal wagon crushes driver in shed accident

Frank Bain, driver for Comer Seace Co, suffered serious injuries when a coal wagon moved under a low beam in Ches ter Harvey's coal shed. Rain trapped between beam and load caused crushing and bruising. Dr M F Brackney attended and the patient is improving.

Auto and buggy parking at Friends church causes complaints

Several attendees report vandalism and tampering with vehicles left on church campus during services. A mower machine belonging to A. W. Farmer was altered, lights were meddled with, causing it to run off the road into a ditch by the William Smitherman farm. No injuries occurred though the machine required shop repairs.

Friends Church Observes Old Folks Day Services

The Friends church will observe Old Folks Day on Sunday at 11 o clock with Lenna Watson delivering the sermon. The evening sermon topic is Selling Our Birthright. Leaguers are urged to attend Wednesday evening class. Final chorus practice with a partial orchestra precedes the Independence meeting next Sunday. A social hour and flag raising may be discussed at 7 30.

French Orphan Fund Support From Mooresville Children

Mooresville and nearby children act as god-parents to Edmond Druesne of Versailles France for the French Orphan Fund. We have collected 31.50 of 36.00 required, with Lalique medals awarded to top contributors Paul Harvey and Mary Ellen Simmons. A list of donors and amounts is provided, and more children may enroll by leaving contributions at the Public Library.

The Mooresville community is urged to join sewing efforts for Allied and American wounded in France. Doreas Society and Pythian Sisters will assist alongside two existing circles. Anyone can request work and samples by calling 64, continuing a Civil War era tradition of loyal women.

Sunday School Class Entertains 75th Birthday Host

About thirty members of J. P. Calvert s Sunday School class gathered at his home Sunday afternoon to celebrate his 75th birthday. Calvert has led the class since 1892 as it grew from a few members to almost fifty. Mrs. C. L. Hallam read the class history. A telephone from the pulpit to Mrs. Calvert s room was being installed to share music and sermon each Sunday morning. Cream and cake were served.
