Edited by Mooresville Franchise League this weekly letter urges voter registration and suffrage support. It notes Indiana women may vote in a Sept 18 1917 special election on delegates to a constitutional convention and promises follow up questions and answers on the convention study.
Friends Church invites all men to a special service with the men’s chorus and the subject Men and Religion. The morning service will discuss The Victory of Faith. Old Folk’s Day is set for June 24 at 11 a.m.
Local column catalogs visits and events in a small town: Emma Thompson and Verna Weidner in Indianapolis, Frank Munson funeral in Center Ton, real estate rentals on S Jefferson, Ford touring car for sale, Camp Fire ticket sales for Dreamland, residents visiting relatives in Connersville Iowa and Indianapolis, and various community notices including teachers reassigned, a house for rent, and local shop updates.
The Monitor, published here by J. H. Stephenson for about a year and a half, ended last week. Stephenson cited unprofitable business as the reason for quitting the venture.
A group of Indianapolis News carriers visited the city on a Wednesday tour organized by the manager. They were guided through the State House, Federal Building, Soldiers and Sailors Monument, and other notable sites. Participants included Tully Hallam, Milton Cox, George Townsend, and Robert Wade.
The Noble Outcast staged by the Eastern Star Lodge at the school house drew a good local audience. Teachers from Valley Mills acted well with Katharine Friesner Dorval Jackson providing strong music and Erna Lyon reciting readings. Proceeds benefited the Masonic Home in Franklin.
Section 1 of the Woman's Home Missionary Society of the M FE church will host a tea at Mrs Claude E Watson on Wednesday afternoon June 20. The Missionary Society of the Christian church will hold its annual tea at Mrs Ralph Jackson's home on Friday afternoon June 22.
June 17 at 7 45 p m a special sermon for men on Men and Religion with music by the men's chorus scheduled at Friends Church. June 24 features Old Folks Day with services and activities.
Purdue University offers a Food Emergency course the week of June 18 23 focusing on canning food preservation economical use of foods planning inexpensive diets and cooking methods. The program combines lectures demonstrations and laboratory work and invites interested persons to contact the Department of Agricultural Extension in Lafayette Indiana.
On June 21 and 22 Purdue will stage a Food Conservation course conference for agricultural and domestic science teachers. Z M Smith and J G Collicott will speak Thursday while O H Benson demonstrates canning and drying. Friday features L R Romine on Visual Instruction and G I Christie on Vocational Agricultural teachers and the County agent. Benson continues demonstrations.
The Indiana Public Service Commission postpones a Thursday meeting on the Mooresville Public Service Co. petition to raise rates. Officials say they will reschedule as soon as possible due to lack of time.
Charles Britton sold his 80 acre farm near Wilbur and all stock and tools to George Stewart of Indianapolis for immediate possession. EB. B. Shortridge arranged the deal. Stewart, who has sold a Montana sheep ranch, plans to acquire more land near Wilbur and expand sheep raising.
The French Orphan Fund asks Alco rseville children to donate to support a boy in Versailles. Some have not given yet. funds are extended and Miss Helen Hadjie will collect contributions at the Public Library.
A string of transfers shows Howard E. Newby and Lelia A. Davis in Hendricks and Mooresville, Walden W. Hadley and Naomi Haywood in Martinsville, John R. Mannan and Alice Jones in Martinsville, Joseph W. Steward and Jennie Downey with Florence Alabama ties, Chancey Chenoweth and Maye Pettie in Indianapolis and Monrovia, Everett Baker and Rose Moran of Martinsville, and Westine Leitzman visiting the Hendersons from Earlham with plans to serve a church in Providence R. J. next week. Loren accompanies her.
Reeves department store announces a new shipment featuring an extra nice line of men’s shirts and ties. Shoppers are invited to view the selection and compare styles and prices.
Dr Snyder Commissioner of Vocational Education of California and his assistant Dr Jacobs visited Mooresville on Wednesday to study school conditions. They were favorably impressed with the agricultural and domestic science departments and said the work is the best of its kind they had seen on their trip.
The Mooresville community is called to support French Relief Work and the organization of French Wounded. Women are asked to sew bed jackets and pajama suits, with free material sent for use. Two sewing circles meet Thursdays at O. P. Macy’s and Miss Scott’s, encouraging broader town participation in the war aid effort.
