Community Canning Club begins work at Manatee

Work has begun at the Community Canning Club house in Manatee Florida. Sixty cans of fruit gooseberries and strawberries and twenty glasses of jelly are on the shelves. Mrs Charles Afiller, former Mooresville resident, urges strong club effort and asks for surplus fruit and vegetables to be sent or arranged for pickup by calling 182 or 63.

Manatee Canning Club Expands for War Effort

The Manatee Canning Club continues with a seasoned workforce turning out vegetables in glass and tin. Barrels of Liberty Cabbage, corn, beans, beets, and tomatoes flow in from local sections as members prepare a record season to aid France. The club grew from the Home Demonstration Club led by Miss Eloise McGriff at Manatee Junior High School and now operates throughout the county with women canners aiding farmers on a 50-30 basis to bolster wartime supplies.

Priends Aid Society Meeting With Mrs Harley Richardson

The Priends Aid Society will meet with Mrs Harley Richardson next Wednesday June 12 for an all day meeting. There will be sewing to do and each member is urged to be present and bring a good sized scrap of seeds. A free will offering will be taken. Members without means to sew are asked to call president Nils Maude Kitchen for assistance.

Concert at Monrovia Benefits Red Cross

A Sunday concert at Monrovia High School auditorium on June 9 at 2:30 pm raises funds for the Red Cross. Directed by Leslie E. Peck, the Cornet Choir of the Metropolitan School of Music Indianapolis performs with soloists William Walker John Schumacher William Gielow Jr Jes se Barkley and Arthur J. Bernault. Admission 10 and 15 cents. crowd expected.

The 24th annual birthday reunion of Madams John Bray Lucy Tansey D B Johnson and Flora Henley was held May 29 at Mrs Ed Pansy’s home in Monrovia. Guests enjoyed a dinner program with piano selections a soldier boy solo a duet and essays recalling years past.

A collection of letters from Mooresville and Camp Zachary Taylor shows gratitude to the Red Cross for comfort kits and ongoing aid for soldiers in France and at home. Messages from Noble D. Stanton and Edgar C. Shirley praise supplies, camp life, and thoughts of family, including Mother's Day reflections and hopes for a safe return. The fragment also notes Elizabeth Sheets’s funeral in Mooresville and family survivors.

Memorial services honor veterans at M. BE church

Memorial services at the M. BE church Thursday drew a large crowd. The community chorus opened with patriotic songs under director W. E. Hacklemay of Irvington. Orville Templeton displayed a sixty three star service flag. Judge Orbis on gave a stirring address while Thompson's orchestra provided music. J. S. Comer led civic groups and Sunday School children in a graveside service as flowers were laid on veterans' graves.

Postmaster Roberts announces all alien women within the district must register at the office from the 17th to the 26th of this month. The notice specifies the registration period and location for compliance.

Coal Carload Purchases Directed by Indiana Official

In Martinsville Indiana on May 30 1918 Mr Howard Lindley is urged to warn the public about coal bought in carload lots. The Fuel Administrator forbids new carload purchases by households not already buying this way without county authorization. Citizens must apply to the County Fuel Administrator and papers will be reviewed before action is taken.
