First day results from Community Canning show progress as Mrs Pleas Mills and Mrs Nettie Macy supervise volunteers who produced 22 quarts of gooseberries in thin syrup 2 quarts of strawberry preserves 2 pints of gooseberry jam and jelly glasses and pint cans are sought to save all fruit juice. The goal is self support soon though early stages require some items.

No Oiling of Streets In Town Due To New Regulations
Coland and Dalen, awarded the contract to oil Main and High streets, were informed by the Indiana Refining Co. that road oiling requires routing through the state road commission to the Washington DC Director of Bureau of Public Roads. The process could take 30 to 60 days for a permit, so the town plans to abandon the oiling plan this season.

Child Bitten by Bulldog on Neighbor’s Porch
Dorothy Elliott, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs A B Elliott, was bitten on the left cheek by a bulldog on a neighbor’s porch. The dog, owned by Chester Allen, snapped as the child patted it. the injury tore the jaw and gums. The child recently had whooping cough and is weak. Allen reportedly refuses to have the dog killed.

Hardware merchant Keller injured in train collision
George A. Keller, a well known hardware merchant, was seriously hurt when his car was struck by the Vandalia passenger train at the Harrison street crossing. He suffered a fractured hip and head injuries and was taken home on a stretcher.
