Numerous local residents are reported ill and traveling for the holidays while social events and dinners fill the season. A large farm sale is announced for mid February, with other notices of marriages, house sales, store openings, and community gatherings across the town.
Albert Edward Wiggan will present the third lecture of the course on Wednesday evening January 3. A leading Lyceum speaker, he has captivated audiences nationwide with eloquence and his talk titled Dollars and Sense is praised as among the best from any public speaker.
Attorney J. M. Bishop received a McGuffey speller and three cakes of soap as gifts. He notes the items are practical and could prove beneficial if used.
Harris Vail has accepted the position of supervisor of music for Tipton city schools. He is a graduate of the Indianapolis Conservatory of Music and has studied at the American Conservatory in Chicago. He was offered the Tipton post after being invited to graduate from Chicago.
The resident C Schurmann died after a three week illness at his home on West Clarrison Street. Funeral services are held at the home Friday morning with burial to follow in Indianapolis.

There will be an election of one trustee for K of P lodge No 189 on December 28, 1911. C. L. Hallam is named as K R and S.

A Friday evening spelling event at the high school assembly hall drew crowds of youths and adults. Sumner Sellers of seventh grade won the grade contest after fifty five minutes. Alf Richardson triumphed in the old McGuffy contest with the word sacrilegious, outspelling rivals including Mrs Mintie Hiatt and Frank Bass.
The door receipts of the evening totaled 22 65 with individual contributions of 9c 25c and 1 making the library fund reach 24 00. A Christmas gathering at several homes followed with prominent local residents in attendance. A full line of heaters cook stoves and ranges at G A Kellers.
Christmas vacation began Monday and lasts until January second. Miss Sparks visited home in Pennsylvania for the holidays. The Friday evening library opening on the 15th was well attended with music and addresses. Teachers including Miss Way Miss Trank and K Davis left for Terre Haute Orleans and Bedford for the break. Spelling match drew a large crowd with Sumner Sellars and A G Richardson proving their skills. Miss Clyda Thompson, recently ill, is improving. Seniors plan to begin theses in the new year. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
L Be Stone will hold a public sale of livestock grain feed farm implements on his farm around February 1. It is a closing out sale since he has rented the farm for years and will retire from farming. Purchasers will have twelve months without interest to pay. Remember this sale and attend.
A Christmas dinner hosted by Mr and Mrs Pleas Morgan entertained Mr and Mrs Frank Sheets Mr and Mrs B F Morgan Mr and Mrs Sam Harper Mr and Mrs Frank Mendenhall and Mrs Fred Herzog. Also mentioned are Mr and Mrs Byron Harvey of West Newton and Howard Tutt and family of Noblesville visiting for turkey with Albert Hervey and his wife. Louis G Poehls a Indianapolis dentist will practice on Tuesdays and Fridays at Drs Thompson and Alagenheimer.
