The White County Red Cross membership drive, hampered by influenza and poor roads, aims for a 5 000 member total in 1919. About 2 900 have enrolled so far, with several townships completed and others partially done.

The message quotes New York 12-24-18 Arrived safely today from Brest, France via La France. Other notes mention VietroLas purchased in Reynolds and advertisements for fur buyers and Vietrola sales.
Ruth M Wolfe daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Wolfe of Wolcott died at home Sunday after pneumonia. She was educated at Wolcott High School and taught in Princeton Township and Wolcott. Interment at Riverview cemetery followed a service led by Reverend Ashley.
The Christmas Eve ceremony at Buffalo Christian Church united Rev Guy T Walters and Miss May Sluyter with Dr C B Utterschey officiating. The couple, connected to Union Christian College, plan to reside in Merom Indiana after January 1 and continue college life.
Mr and Mrs George Thomas receive a Tuesday letter from their son Lieut Gwin Thomas who has been critically ill at Debarkation hospital No 2 Staten Island. The letter says he expects to sit up and eat Christmas dinner signaling improvement after an abscess operation on his lung last week. He will be sent to Walter Reed hospital in Washington when able to travel and hopes to appear before long.
The White County annual report highlights major war driven farming efforts led by County Agent Bausman from January 15 to December 1, 1918. It details seed corn relief, seed sourcing from Missouri New Jersey and local sources, testing all ears, and a labor clearinghouse that supplied 42 laborers to 35 farms plus many boys placed by the district.

Mrs W H Park, age 78, fell from a chair while reading by a fire in Brookston injuring her shoulder. Dr Gossett reduced the fracture and she recovers promptly.
Influenza epidemic hampered Red Cross work across the county and holiday slowdowns delayed aid. With the influenza improving and the busy season over, the County Chapter will restart supply distributions to county units. The Goodman Co delivered an Edison Diamond Disc Phonograph to Mrs Philip Ward of Reynolds.
A former air observer recalls leaving his aerial photographs and gear at a hospital after being wounded. He mentions plans to become an observer, the chance of a commission, and that wounded and convalescent troops are to be sent back. He anticipates an early return to the United States.
The Reynolds garage business man Harry Coter Edman Dover Cover died of pneumonia after influenza. Born August 22 1895 he was married to Lillian Donnelly May 27 1917. He served briefly in the U S Army and was discharged July 5 1918. Funeral was held at the Catholic church and led to the McCuaig vault in Riverview cemetery at Monticello pending his wife’s recovery.
Mrs. J M Dyer receives a letter from her brother Robert A Pavisson of Company L 51st Infantry stationed in France. He details a nine day pass at Charles Les Faux near the Swiss border, meals and beds, trenches for 31 days, and a German retreat after a long barrage costing millions. He notes heavy losses, expresses readiness to return home, and recalls the hardships with resolve.
