Maquoketa grid drills focus on blocking and tackling as the season opens tomorrow night. The backfield is inexperienced but the line looks strong with ample scrimmage work and real-tackle practice sharpening the squad. Co captains Phil Schneider and Milt Rieken led as elected. Rieken moved to backfield amid preparations for a hard driving season.
The first graders begin work on dental cards and thank Nancy Grimes for keeping their gold fish. Large classes in both first and third grades required a combination room for overflow while all grades start using new books.
The first Friday assembly opened with the Monticello high school band and included a saxophone solo by Bob Bartlett. Missa Gould led community singing as clubs presented skits about school organizations. New students were introduced by Jim Nelson, with welcome remarks from Claire Shannon and Carol Caspers. eighth grader James Seehusen and seventh grader George Stahler spoke for their grades.
