Miller Fairbanks win top prize in Tat steer baby beef shows

At the Great Jones County Fair Anamosa's Terry Fairbanks 19 won the champion Angus with an animal named in honor of the stud. Ron Shada 18 took reserve Shorthorn honors and both showmen belonged to Cass Center Hustlers. The hazy beeve auction netted $39 per hundredweight for the grand champion Angus as 245 calves sold averaged 27.97 per hundredweight and 263 per head, totaling 64 407.94 dollars.

Terry Fairbanks of Anamosa, 19, won the grand champion baby beef title with a 1 005 pound Angus. He also showed the champion Hereford for the Cass Center Hustlers, being the son of Mr and Mrs Wills Fairbanks.

Fat Steer show prize goes to Osceola Angus by Lyle Miller

Lyle Miller of Osceola won the top prize of $1,000 and the first place trophy in the 21st Fat Steer show at the Great Jones County Fair for an Angus steer. Miller's wife Shirley took third with her steer, while their daughter Jody won eighth with a Hereford. The event had 34 entries with several other top placements and auction prices ranging from $25.50 to $30 per hundredweight.

Kid's Day Event Set For Saturday At Monticello Fairgrounds

The Monticello Drill Team hosts the third annual Kid's Day this Saturday at 1 30 p m at the Monticello fairgrounds. The free event offers pops ice cream watermelon and prizes. If rain occurs the event moves to Sunday afternoon.

Kula to Head ASC Committee in Monticello Election

Forty eight delegates from 16 Jones county townships met Saturday in Monticello to elect the ASC county committee. Leonard Kula was chosen as county committeeman and Anamosa’s Joe Carroll was named chairman for a one year term. Cascade’s Bob? Mizaur was named second alternate with Dillon Story and Harry Carbaugh among others. | Kula named to panel for 1965 ASCS state conference workshop. Des Moines hosts Sept 7-9. The conference expects about 600 ASC county leaders and staff attendees.

Purebred Heifer Champions Crowned at Great Jones County Fair

Thursday morning awards at the Great Jones County Fair honored purebred heifer champions across breeds. Angus winner Mike Inglis of Wyoming led with Lance Hartwig Olin in Short Horn, Matthew Robertson Martelle Hereford. Reserve went to Gary Steffens Oxford Jet Angus, Ken Beck Mechanicsville Shorthorn, Matthew Robertson Martelle Hereford.

Hopkinton Lions Open Rodeo This Weekend at Grounds

The annual Hopkinton Lions Club open rodeo offers two shows this weekend at the rodeo grounds north of town. Saturday 8 p.m. and Sunday 2 p.m. feature five major events per session plus junior calf riding, wild cow race, girls barrel race, and a chuck wagon breakfast at 7 a.m. Sunday. A rodeo dance is planned for Saturday night at Mardon ballroom.
