Hopkinton Cousins Hold Four Generation Neil Family Reunion

Thirty four cousins from four generations of the George and Margaret Neil family held a picnic and reunion at the Marshall Neil cabin near Delhi. Attendees included Hopkinton residents and guests from Manchester, Kansas City, and beyond. A memorial park dinner honored relatives as Junior Feltes recovered from appendectomy.

Edna Mussmann stayed with Thomas Dunlap in Slater and Gregory Dunlap returned home after visiting Hopkinton relatives.

FFA sponsors rural crossroads safety drive in Monticello area

Monticello high school FFA members sponsor View-Safe Rural Crossroads to urge residents in each township to trim corn and brush at road corners. Co chairs report cutting back 210 to 250 feet from corners preserves yield, with six leaves around the ear, and grassing diverted acres may qualify for Feed Grain. County ASCS check advised.

Center of 4-year-old boy injured in farm accident

Center Junction reports 4 year old Mathew Gray son of Keith and Mrs Gray entered Anamosa hospital August 16 with internal injuries after a weed sprayer tipped over. Transferred to St Luke's Cedar Rapids for treatment likely to stay another week. Community notes include visits, picnics, and circles resuming in September.

Land Bank to Pay 25000 in Dividends This Year

The Cedar Rapids Federal Land Bank Assn will distribute a 62 percent dividend totaling over 25000 to its 525 member-borrowers. Dividend checks will be mailed September 1. The association, owned by its borrower-members, has loans totaling more than 8.5 million dollars across Linn, Benton and Jones counties. Board president Bert L. Ballou of Monticello leads the organization.

FFA Dairy Judging Team Places Third at All Iowa Fair

Monticello FFA dairy judging team finished third in the Junior Dairy Judging contest at the All Iowa Fair. Supervisor Grover Miehe said 34 teams and 146 individuals competed. Gary Janssen, an FFA member, placed seventh in the individual standings.
