Confusing Alarm Sends Firemen to Three Local Homes

Monticello volunteer firemen responding to a confusing fire alarm from the Great Jones County fairgrounds visited three residences. They first checked John Smith on Main Street, then the late John Smith’s farm near John McDonald hospital, and finally John Schmidt’s home at 323 West First Street where an electric vaporizer shorted, causing a minor fire. Mrs Schmidt shut the main switch, limiting damage to smoke on walls and ceiling and a scorched wall.
