A freight wreck north of town damages 692 railroad ties and spreads rails forcing repairs that will pause service until Wednesday noon. The issue follows a lively Hawthorne Club social at the Alden home and reports of local political meetings featuring Senator Kenyon and Ames.
Onslow reports a robust business climate with August Hansen adding stock and Franks & Son noting record sales so far this year. A Presbyterian church installation sees Rev Earl Benbow take the pastorate with visiting ministers from Linn Grove Monticello and Cedar Rapids. Numerous local residents and visitors are listed, including Miss Edith Benbow and Miss Mildred Lamey, with social notes on travels, speaking engagements, and entertainment.
Rural Route 3 records a string of Sunday visits by families including the Zimmermans Behrends Ricklefs Decker and Prull with several calls from Cascade Castle Grove and Temple Hill. A local school term closed successfully and residents praise good roads aiding automobile travel.

Mrs. Mayme Lyons Ellison of Nashville visited Center Junction. Others attended events in Amber Maquoketa Oxford Junction Hopkinton Coggon Maquoketa and nearby areas with numerous visits and shop trips noted.
Prairieburg updates include a bustling Baker building rental period, a St Josephs church wedding for Miss Mary Holub and Albert Holub, and various visits. Also noted: Dems and Republicans held speeches, M E Ladies served dinner, Presbyterians plan a Thanksgiving dinner, plus residents Ed Burlingham, H Fleming, Clara Fehr, Inez Platner, Hattie Harker, Ella Kline, Pearl Bowman with several trips and visits reported.
District Superintendent Dr. A M Billingsley attended the quarterly meeting. C H Huntington Sr. was taken to Anamosa for treatment. W E Quirk funeral held at Delmar. Mrs S O Hassenpflug visiting Huntington family. City lays water mains east side. BE Hogan occupies Reddin home. Will Cooley travelled Dubuque Milwaukee W. Will Kearney family drove through Anamosa Monticelo Hopkinton. Cascade Creamery to start receiving cream next week. O Gorman speech in Dubuque. Rhinehart and Paul of Anamosa callers. The play Thelma at Columbia well attended. C F Crawford moved to new east side residence. D J Moore visited friends in Anamosa. L M Roux in Onslow on Saturday.
Amber reports early farm sales in Jackson township with prices around 100 dollars per acre and 140 dollars per acre for nearby properties. Social visits include Mrs. Peter Schwarz in Cedar Rapids and friends near Springville while evangelists hold meetings in Waterloo. Local medical and commerce notices announce a November 9 Cedar Rapids visit for Dr. H. E. Kegley and a jewelers upgrade from James A. McNeal & Co.
Senator Kenyon spoke to a large audience at the Monticello opera house and at Mechanicsville and other towns, part of a heavy campaign touring Tama county. He defended tariffs, warned against democratic tinkering, and denounced misleading circulars about Knights of Columbus oath while urging unity on key issues.
Castle Grove reports the marriage of Fred Cramer to Nellie Livingston with plans for fuller details in The Express. A lecture by Rev. W Z Allen on The Man with the Hoe is set at Castle Grove Chapel next Friday at 8 PM with special music and a silver offering. Other items note local visits, travel, school vacations, and A M Fairbanks’s health.
Miss Nelle Livingstone, daughter of Robert Livingstone of Center Junction, wed Fred Cramer son of A W Cramer of Castle Grove township, at the bride’s father’s home with Rev R A Brough officiating. Earlier, Miss Margaret French of Onslow married Charles C Livingstone at the bride’s home with Rev Earl Benbow. The weddings unite two prominent Jones county families and a quiet ceremony followed by a short Chicago trip for the couples.
