Richland Number Four School Sees Warm Winter Revival
A rural Richland Township schoolhouse upgrades with a new furnace after sixteen local farmers dug a cellar foundation. The 1880s to 1890s records show a long line of teachers from J O Perley to Amelia Bobleter, with 31 pupils in 1887 and ongoing term changes recorded in old registers.

Richland Center Stone Schoolhouse Built 1865
Historical notes describe Richland number four stone schoolhouse built about 1865 by Monticello stonemason John Wybel. Foundation used forty tons of rock from George Green farm, with Charles S. Rigby and son Louis laying the stone. The basement is cemented with a brick chimney added, and lime burned by Leonard Hein. The building stands opposite the Presbyterian church now used only for community gatherings.

Early Day Swindlers Provoked Editor's Wrath
