In Onslow the Altrurian club marked its 33rd annual opening with a three course dinner served by the Christian Service Guild first division. English Lit Class Studying Macbeth and School News
Seventeen seniors study Macbeth with five project groups. Two groups build Elizabethan theater models, two adapt Macbeth for modern staging, and a third researches costumes. A three week study period is planned. Band Carnival to Support Monticello High School Band
The Band Carnival, the largest Monticello event since the Great Jones County Fair, runs October 29 and 30 at Floral Hall in the city park. Admission is free with prizes, door gifts, sideshows, games, dancing, and refreshments. Tickets for games and refreshments are sold by band members. The event supports the high school band amid school performances at recent football games.

Sophomore Class Hayride on October 5 Night

Shorthand Class Trains Girls as School Secretaries
In Mrs. Adams course shorthand and practical secretarial work are taught. Each high school teacher has a girl from the class serving as secretary along with the principal and superintendent who have several. The program aims to boost efficiency in writing letters and making worksheets and to teach running the duplicating machine.
Experiments Help Physics Class Learn Pressure and Buoyancy
Mr. Shannon uses engaging experiments to teach upward and downward pressure, sideward force, total force, water displacement, buoyancy, and hydraulic press concepts. Auditions for All-State Band occur October 23 with students traveling to Waterloo and rehearsals in Des Moines, leading to a Drake Stadium concert on November 27.
