In Florida a angler nets multiple bass and fish lore shares Gramp Griggs story of a legendary one hook catch. The tale recounts a great northern pike swallowing a bass and a musky attempting the same, plus Gramp spotting a row of roosting wild turkeys at dusk while walking home.
A frontier narrator recalls Gramp loading a flintlock with a ramrod pressed along the barrel to fire a single shot at a target. The improvised method aimed to pierce a long line of adversaries and reveal if the gun would discharge through the load.
In a harsh old scene a hunter uses a ramrod to kill six turkeys with a single shot as they retreat under wings. The ramrod pierces their heads and leaves a macabre display. Gramp hauls the birds home three per side and leaves the rod in place to prove the kill.
