Marchers including the Monticello high school band the drill team and Boy Scouts joined the Veterans Day parade held last Thursday morning.
MHS instructor Earl McCaustland delivered a Veterans Day message during a special ceremony held last Thursday morning. His speech is reprinted on the editorial page A-4 of today’s Express.

The Monticello Meals on Wheels board reports 22 people currently served. In October 540 noon meals were delivered by United Church of Monticello, with volunteers from Wayne Zion Lutheran serving 22 persons daily on average 18 deliveries. St. John's Lutheran church will deliver in December.
Council discusses bringing the Monticello sewer plant into compliance with revised EPA and DEQ rules. Delays threaten priority status, grant funds, and possible permit loss as a top priority upgrade proceeds with a 1979 completion target.
A $179,260 damages suit was filed in Jones county district court by Glen R. King Shirley A. King and their daughters Melinda and Christine against Alvin J. Blum for injuries from a two vehicle crash on November 24 1974 on highway 151 north of Anamosa. The suit seeks compensatory and punitive damages including future medical costs and loss of a demolished car. Additional items include specific dollar amounts for each family member and vehicle value.
Bids from Stephens Buick-Pontiac Schoon Ltd Freese Motors K&P and others outlined prices with and without trade ins for compact cars and equipment including a truck chassis backhoe snowblower and sanitation gear. Eastburn recommended replacing a four year old backhoe with Ford 550 from Kromminga Motors at up to 15500 with trade.
