LeRoy Petersen son of Mr and Mrs John A Petersen has been promoted to sergeant after two years in the army in Germany. He is stationed in Augsburg and expects discharge in August. Wyoming Man Dies Suddenly At University Hospital

Don L. Wherry 62 an instructor at Mechanicsville high school died suddenly Wednesday at University hospital Iowa City after being taken there for observation. He was born on a farm near Wyoming and lived much of his life in Iowa later moving to Wyoming to teach at Monmouth and Mechanicsville. He served in World War I and left a home in Washington before returning to Iowa. He is survived by his wife and two sons John of Atlantic and Richard a student at Cornell College.

Marvin Jacobs Miriam Young Minnie Otten and a drum ensemble earned superior ratings at the state music contest in Vinton. They qualify to compete at Boone on May 15. Monti Panthers Fall to Onslow 5-3 on Tuesday

Monti lost 5-3 to Onslow with Paul Schneider on the mound and Dean Willworth catching for Monti. Monti scored twice in the fifth and once in the seventh, while Onslow added two in the third and three in the sixth. The Panthers had earlier been rained out in Dyersville and will visit Monticello on May 17 and Oxford Junction on May 14.

Maldean Dirks joins National Honor Society and becomes associate editor of the PANTHER while active in glee club Pep club M Club and more. Elizabeth Liz Wilson from Monti High plans college life in the South and sings in multiple choirs and bands. Casper John Hein Monroe Duane Slauson and Donald Hagen also feature with varied clubs sports and future plans. Charlotte Deischer served as senior editor of the PANTHER and associate advisor of Rainbow.

Deep Sea Theme Banquet Captures 1948 Junior Senior Year

The annual junior-senior banquet held Friday May 7 1948 in the community building featured a deep sea theme. A mermaid greets guests as blue streamers drape the room around treasure chest props and shells. Toasts by class presidents and performances followed a Neptune inspired menu and sea motif with dancing to Gus Fuhrn’s orchestra and a planned week of lunch menus.
