Oxford Junction Obituary and Community Notes
Anton Vacek died at 78 after a three month illness at his Oxford Junction home. Funeral services were held May 3 at Hayden Funeral Home with Dr. E A Piper officiating. burial in Mayflower cemetery. The Sacred Heart CYO hosted a Mothers Day breakfast May 1 for about 75 attendees at the elementary school. Joe Barto entered St Luke's hospital May 2 for observation. Mrs. George Cress visited Tucson before returning to DeWitt to be with daughter. Various locals attended university events and family gatherings during May Day weekend and Mother's Day week. The high school band received a Division II rating at the Calamus contest. The senior class will tour the State Mental Health Institute May 6. commencement speaker James E Hayes, assistant professor at the State University of Iowa, will speak May 19.
