Wayne Zion to Install New Pastor Rev Wachholz
Rev. Luther G. Wachholz will be installed as pastor of Wayne Zion Lutheran church rural Monticello at 10 a.m. Sunday May 6 with Dr. Hulme of Wartburg seminary Dubuque in charge. An 8 a.m. service is canceled for that day and a congregational potluck follows a reception for the couple. Wachholz came from Enid Oklahoma and has served at Ellis Kansas. He is a Wartburg College and Wartburg Seminary alumnus married to Geraldine Van Dyke of Omaha Nebraska.

Firemen Answer Three Fire Calls in Three Hours
Monticello volunteers fought three blazes within 11 30 a m and 2 30 p m last Wednesday. Fire at Yeoman and Co damaged doors and window frames. a grass fire behind Hi way Market and locker plant briefly threatened farm buildings. another grass fire near Myrom Kuhns pasture was contained. A separate Saturday call reported an ironing board fire at 329 East Cherry the Keith Oldfather residence.

MHS Music Groups Sweep State Contest With 32 First Ratings
Monticello students earned 32 first ratings in a state music contest. Merchants set Employee Days for May 3 to 5 with special store bargains. The Monticello Dollars auction returns May 5 at 2 p.m. behind the Community building. The Greater Monticello Committee sponsors the eighth of nine auctions offering 35 prizes including vacations and garden items.

Instrumental Vocal Groups Shine at State Small Groups Meet
Monti cello Community high school earned 32 first and 40 second ratings at the State small groups contest in Tipton. Instrumental groups won 19 firsts and 26 seconds, while vocal groups took 13 firsts and 14 seconds. Ray Stumbaugh directed instrumental music. Coleen Taylor led vocal music. Missing Monticello Youth Found After Overnight Absence
A 15 year old Monticello boy reported missing since 11 p m Tuesday was found Wednesday morning after 4 a m. Authorities from Monticello police and Jones county deputy sheriff were notified and surrounding towns alerted. The youth had previously left home and used pillows to fake sleep. Rexall one cent sale at Long Drug Monticello runs through Saturday May 5 with many bargains per manager Phil Tuetken.

Davey Crockett Operetta Staged by Monticello Junior High
Monticello Community junior high presents Davy Crockett in two acts at 8 p.m. Friday May 11 with a cast of 60 seventh and eighth graders. The Tennessee mountains setting spans 1804 to 1821. Choirs include named students and a woodsmen chorus. A matinee for students is set for 1 30 p.m. Thursday May 10.

Monticello issues permits for four new houses
Construction permits were issued in April for four new houses in Monticello. A garage is approved east of the Northwestern Bell building at 215 South Cedar with an estimated cost of 2000 dollars. Other permits include remodeling at 112 North Cedar for 3700 dollars and add room at 701 South Cedar for 800 dollars.

Begin Addition To Super Valu
Construction started this week on a 25 by 120 foot addition to the north side of the Super Valu building at 120 N. Sycamore. The enlargement will give about one and a half times more space, with a larger store interior and expanded parking area to be hard surfaced later this summer. Joe Messerli, owner of the existing building, moved two houses to make room for the expansion.
