Construction in the Greater Monticello area for 1968 reached $1,018,084, down $25,394 from 1967. Seven new businesses open in Greater Monticello area in 1968
In 1968 the Greater Monticello area saw seven new ventures begin operations. Krysan Bakery opened in the FSI building on West First Street with John and Shirley Krysan as owners. Century House gift shop launched in July by Elaine Smith of Walker assisted by her daughter Lynne. RB Electronics started in the former Thomas Bakery building selling and servicing electronics with Richard Benke as owner. Rod's Barber Shop opened in the Kaiser building run by Rod Rotenbrink. A Sears catalog center opened by Dick Westhoff in the former Monty Cafe building after remodeling. Farmstead Builders Inc. began operations by Chuck Hagen, Lloyd Welter and Marvin Jansen in the Shover building on highway 151 south. B and B Feed Store opened by Bill McDonough in the old creamery in Sand Springs last December.
