Funeral services for David L. Eby held in Monticello
David Lee Eby aged 19 of rural Marion died in a 5 a.m. Saturday crash on Highway 64 east of Marion when his westbound motorcycle collided head on with a car driven by Miss Connie Schneiter. Two Monticello residents, Howard Schneiter and his daughter Connie Faye Schneiter, were injured. Services were conducted by the Rev. John Benj Wild at Goettsch Funeral Home with interment in Oakwood Cemetery. Eby born June 7, 1948 in Los Angeles was the son of Richard and Betty Harris Eby. He had worked for Farmers Mutual Co op Creamery and Collins Radio. survived by mother, father, siblings, and grandparents.

The Iowa senate approved a 3.531 million medium security prison to be built on state land near the men state reformatory in Anamosa. An amendment preserving Anamosa site was authored by Rep Roy Miller and debated by Sen Clifton Lamborn before passage. The house had approved the bill 98 to 7 prior to senate action.

Olin plans Fourth of July celebration with bands and games
The Olin Lions Club town council and volunteer fire department organize a special Fourth of July observance. Activities begin with a Little League game at 2:30 p.m. on school grounds, followed by a concert by the Oxford Jet polka band at 7 p.m. The Olin high school band performs at 7:25 p.m. A variety program starts at 8:15 p.m. with advancing colors, featuring Olin students, the Fall Brothers and the Polka band.
