A report from President Richard Long states the Monticello Chamber of Commerce is near collapse. Merchants, professionals and homeowners are urged to attend a June 21 meeting at 7 30 p m to decide whether the chamber will survive and continue to promote local commerce.
A nostalgic column covers fishing tales in a lighthearted tone. It mentions Tom Henderson’s 31-pound catfish, a mock rivalry between local clubs, a charity softball idea, corn borers harming crops, and humorous quips about daily life in Anamosa and surrounding counties.
Richland folk Edna Buol and her companions from Monticello Detroit Lakes Minn visit Meeda Pa and Washington DC on a trip that included a day in Columbus Ohio. They then toured Atlantic City and met local friends. In other notes John Balear and daughter visited the George Hein home last Saturday.
Joanne Wright of Scotch Grove was elected president of the county 4-H organization for the coming year at the annual 4-H girls rally day in Anamosa. The event included initiation of honorary member Mrs. William B. Henrichs and musical numbers by Wright and Joyce Postel with Esther Sinclair as accompanist.
Castle Grove area reports a children's day at Peniel chapel with school songs readings and recitations led by church classes. Also covered are Castle Grove Farm Bureau activities, visits, farm work updates, hay curing cautions, and local residents' movements.
